HTC One X review: eXtra special

12 April 2012
How about this for a rebound after a rather quiet second half of last year. A massive change of game plan sees HTC focus on a special few products instead of trying to create a smartphone for every taste. An outstanding result of this effort...

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2012end of the day its google phone that getting updates direct... moreHaha equal you got to be kidding me don't make me laugh. the display the design the processor the memory is all better In one x not to mention the camera and the hdmi support in one x which allows you to connect it to an HDTV and play things in 1080p. the nexus only has a tv-out link and its nothing compared to what one x has to offer. and then there's your point of getting direct updates from google. well my friend if one x was Samsung's flagship phone yeah I can understand your concern it won't get the updates even the note is still on ginger bread and the galaxy s2 still havent completely been updated to ics in all the regions. but this is HTC we are talkin abt their flagships are gonna get all the updates the sensationXE and the sensation is all but updated to ics already everywhere. So don't come with useless points.

terrible result with the audio, for something i value so high on a phone as i regularly use it as a portable music player, this is a deal breaker for me.. amazing considering the S got such a good result as stated, X must have used a different cheap audio chip.

Only dual-band 3G support, and no wifi hotspot is positively primative. It is interesting the only reason to buy this mobile is if you play games and dont have a life, or want to supposedly show off, as it does not do any more than 99.9% of other mobiles. Now where is the real software developments instead of this bland and boring Android to really take advantage of the hardware. The makers are entering into a bottle heck field where the hardware is advancing but no new software on the horizon. ICS is nothing more than a bad face lift, so come on Google, what sneaky developments do you have on the plate, and dont say games. Hell man go get a life.

A word of caution to potential One X owners. Bluetooth cannot be turned on or used in any way while internal storage encryption is enabled. Also, enabling phone storage encryption (separate from internal storage encryption) causes the device to wipe the phone storage first, meaning you lose all pre-installed music and gallery items in addition to whatever you've installed there yourself. Others and I have reported these issues to HTC support so hopefully they'll get sorted in a future software update.

Look at the galaxy note and laugh at urself for saying that it looks better then one x. even the camera and the outdated gingerbread running on it galaxy note is way behind the competition

I myself read a lot of reviews and havnt seen any of them saying that nexus has a better camera then one x. and the nexus is the worst phone Samsung made in the last year look at the benchmarks u people seem to care a lot abt benchmarks so go and see it and then come back and say again that galaxy nexus is bettet then one x.

Still Galaxy nexus the best Android device with ICS. BTW GSM arena nexus still has the HD video in the phone and nexus 5 MP camera equal to HTC one X 8 MP.

Hey the comparison is between image sense and pureview techs. If samsung come up with something like 'cam wiz' or sony with 'cyber shot pro' and the techs show amazing results I will be in their camp. Heck I would even be glad to see them beat pureview which is arguably the best imaging phone cam tech currently. I'm just giving credit where it's due.

I love it when people 'selectively read' other people's comments...

I said no gadget can be good at everything...
I actually say that the HTC camera is average...
I even say I'm not buying it!!

But not sure how 'objective' someone can be comparing every phone to a Nokia one...

                                ;)

                                      2. Wanting convergence doesn't mean I want the gadget to ace every category that's not possible.

                                      3. Like I said I'm camera centric so N8 and 808 are excellent gadgets for me. With the 808 I won't need a point and shoot- convergence- and I still will get high quality imaging and video + audio

                                      4. Atleast the pureview gimmick yields results -amazing results for that matter- unlike the image sense that can't even beat GN

                                      5. You getting worked up won't make the one x take better photos. It's an amazing phone for most functions but lets call a spade a spade, image sense is an epic fail

"People want convergence and right now Htc cams just don't make the cut."

My comments are based on this - convergent phones - looking at all specs, not just one feature... it's all too easy to say one product is better than another based on one feature - but you always have to take into account the entire experience...
