Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator

11 May 2012
There's no battle to end all battles in this industry but there's no point either trying to reason with two deadly droids, armed with the latest technology. We have two of the season's hottest smartphones in combat mode and Android supremacy is...

HTC screen is not as good as samsung, neither is the camera. Samsungs are also easier to flash. Samsung wins as usual

GSM Arena doen't give a clear cut difference in their conclusion part. But Thanks to their benchmarks. Galaxy S3 is a clear winner in term of performance. Touchwiz is simpler and easier to use than SenseUI. Battery Life is awesome, video is better (S3)..

The reason behind any comparisson is that head to head someone must be a winner. I have noticed a tendency by GSM ARENA to take us through lengthy repetetive and sometimes boring reviews, only to end up saying nothing new. If you are to compare one phone with another, your conclutions must come out clearly stating the winner based on facts and not try to please manufacturers by simply gloating over SWOT analysis which is best left to marketers. You must bite the bullet and say categorically as professionals who a winner is in a contest without fear or favour otherwise your comparisons are just meant to please the people who give you these free phones so that ultimately you keep them without offending the manufacturer.

Samsung has the super amoled plus hd display(RGB) which is going to be used in Tizen bt they used the pentile matrix bcz it has a good life over RGB matrix.....the best smartphone company is not a fool that they dnt use the technology they have....They care for their customer....and the amoled display is a oled(led) display means lower power consumption over the old LCDs...and the subpixel cannot be seen with human eye.....Still the amoled is the best display.....And HTC phone are criticized for their low quality mobs.....And last not the least the S-LCD dislay is a joint venture of samsung and sony which samsung is going to buy all stake.....So Samsung is clear winner in all departments

Anonymous, 15 May 2012How did I prove your point? You implied flash negates the n... moreLmao. Now I'm just replying because this is funny. If you assume I meant something by what I said and I tell you that's not what I meant then who are you to say what I said meant? You obviously don't even know what I'm saying let alone what you are saying.

You proved what I was say because as you can clearly see in my post and in my reply I said that the HOX was good and to get whatever you like. Get what you like for you not a tool and not to bash and lie. My point is that obviously the S3 has the edge in almost every scenario, and even with that point gsmarena was nice and left it a tie which kinda distorted the review. All that in mind there was post after post after post of jealous people who wanted HTC to win and made every edge s3 has out be nothing and the two things that HTC had made it god. Then here you come all jealous and flaming my post doing exactly what I said people were doing.

What do you mean how do I know about weather difference? It says it in the review. Not to mention you can see it in the pictures. And yes there is drastic difference in daylight shots, but part of that is due to weather, but not all. Which takes better low light tell you? HTC. Now you tell me which took better more detailed pics? Samsung always owns in camera. HTC takes better low light for the illuminance, but Samsung has a much more superior sensor. That is just fact.

Now let me ask this. If Samsung takes higher quality, more detailed, less noisy pictures and all that plus higher bitrate and more smooth videos then how is HTC better just because it has the illuminance for low light? I'm not hating on HTC, but you are hating on Samsung and calling me the fan boy. If you mean fan boy of technology in general and Samsung for everything they brought us then yes.

if only htc one x has expendable memory card slot there would be a clear winner. i dont why they didnt include this option. had it been here i wouldnt have second thoughts. why htc didnt consider this is still a mystery to me. maybe they will release one or two models consecutively like every time. damn man. why htc why ... sob sob. you deprived me with yourself again.

I have never owned a Samsung or a HTC phone or any Android phones for that matter and I am due for a shiny new quadcore beast lol. After reading this well written diplomatic review I think the S3 schooled the HTC ONE X in every technical department. I even sort of like the simple 'natural' physical look of the S3.

So I think I will be getting that phone once it comes out.

This was the Cheesiest Copout by GSMArena yet. They didn't want to hurt the sales of one of the two devices so they said that both were equal. Will never read another GSMArena phone vs phone battle again after this.

Great detailed analysis, as usual from you.

For future, please consider testing the GPS functionality -- there are bound to be *big* differences between phones on this.

For example, under multipath/reflection conditions, the phones that can lock in faster, cancel out reflections and keep a lock in to a larger number of satellites, will actually give you a decent lock.

This means a usable performance in cities, surrounded by tall buildings, esp. in northern latitudes.

Also, there will be big differences in radio reception and HSDPA performance under marginal radio signal conditions.

It'd be nice to see you test some of these differences in the future.

After all, phones are still quite a lot about the radio signal (voice or data) and how they perform in terms of sound quality and speed under varying conditions (not to mention battery drain).

Thanks again for a good comparison review!

You implied flash negates the need for good low light performance. I pointed out that LED flash doesn't work too well for that. And you say that there's a big difference in daylight even accounting for different weather conditions (I wonder how you can manage that without knowing what the weather was like), then let me ask you this: how big was the difference in the two cameras in low light ;) Let me know.

And so the war of words continues...
Sammy fans will feel vindicated whilst HTC fans will cry 'foul'!!!

                                  To be fair...

                                  They're both excellent phones...

                                  BUT

The one area where HTC really dropped the ball is removing expandable memory... forget dropbox on both phones - who's realistically going to use cloud storage, when it's a battery-draining slow process that has to use 3g / wifi?!?! It can't be included in this argument...

By TAKING AWAY a feature that Android is so well-known for (similar to Sony) they shot themselves in the foot...

Even if both HOX and GS3 were identical in every way bar storage... the GS3 would be the preferred handset for anyone (like myself) who over the past few years have amassed loads of Android games, films, music, themes, apps, photos, videos, etc.

25gb (real terms) simply doesn't cut it... add into the fact that 1 minute of 1080p HD video will take about 150mb of space... and you can see clearly where HTC and Sony screwed up...

For this reason alone - Sammy deserve the place of #1...

                                  HOWEVER

On handset design, they need a good slap in the chops and a wake-up call for next year!! (although you won't see the glossy back when you have a funky cover on it - and let's be honest - who isn't going to protect their HOX or GS3?!?!) so appearances won't really matter that much....

I think considering this was meant to be Sony's big year - HTC have done well to come a very VERY close second - especially considering how the GS2 dominated last year...

                                  Everyone be happy!
