Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III vs. HTC One X: Alien vs. Predator

11 May 2012
There's no battle to end all battles in this industry but there's no point either trying to reason with two deadly droids, armed with the latest technology. We have two of the season's hottest smartphones in combat mode and Android supremacy is...

    Tegra title

    S3 over ONE X
    Feature(SVoice,Smart Eye,etc.)

hegwah, 12 May 2012The real winner here is Android. Forget all this HOX vs SII... moreWho gives a s...t about Apple and their inferior "smartphone". Android wins here cause people compare these two great phones and the iPhone is not even in the equation.

well regarding alien vs predator reference/htc vs s3, well s3 is rather the alien, while htc is predator cause of their designs :)

anyway seems really that s3 is better, tough the design could have been better. if i had s2 or nexus i would wait for s4 but as i dont have i will go and buy it :)

              What I care about:
1.Internet browsing(SGS wins, according to the benchmark): SGS 1:0 HTC.
              2. Camera(I like HTC's HDR pictures better, my personal taste, but the SGS has wider angle, and with HDR+ app you can personalize the contrast, brightness, mini contrast, and saturation as you want, so I guess you can get similar results as with the HTC). SGS 2:0 HTC.
2.1 Video recording(from the videos posted by GSM Arena you see clearly that HTC video is jittery, while SGS's is, well, perfect). SGS 3:0 HTC.
              3. Screen(both phones are excellent). SGS 3.5 : 0.5 HTC.
              4. Functionality(looks like SGS wins here too) SGS 4.5 : 0.5 HTC.
              5. Removable battery (I replaced my original SGS 1 battery, if I couldn't, I would have had to replace the phone) SGS 5.5 : 0.5 HTC.
6 Removable miniSD(just plug it with the USB adapter it into TV, directly into Transformer Prime, etc, faster than any other photo sharing method) SGS 6.5 : 0.5 HTC.
I see a very clear winner here:). Some people refuse to see the evidence in front of their eyes.

why bigger screen is better? when u can't hold the phone in your hand or it doesn't even fit in your pocket?(even if it's the best phone in the world?!!!)

Both phones are good, I am not a fanboy for either side and I must say no sd card and non removable battery were a dealbreaker for me for the htc one x. In regards to design, Honestly, ultimately you're gonna use a phone as a phone, you aren't going to sit there are gaze in amazement at how good the design of the phone is while you wait for a webpage to load. Design will mean nothing after a few weeks.

Both screens has their pros and cons, so that's subjective.
IMO, sense rips touch wiz to shreds. Enough said.

All those new features like s-beam etc are just Samsung putting a name on things android phones could already do. S-Voice? Yea ever heard of vlingo? S-Beam? Really? Whatever happened to bluetooth? I mean really. Not every person that you want to send a file to is going to have a SGS III. Pop-up play is really just a rip off of stick it, check it out on the play store, it works perfectly with everything, YouTube videos, movies on your memory etc.

Despite that, the SIII does perform better, the exynos 4 is a better CPU than the tegra 3. General people aren't going to notice any difference But it still remains a fact.
Camera performance is a tie, both phones will perform good with good light, one x has an edge in low light but SIII has an edge in video recording, but that's nothing that can't be fixed by software. The bit rate that it records at can be adjusted and doesn't have much to do with the lens.

Again, both phones are worthy of praise, but for me, the extra battery life and storage means a lot so that's why I'm going for an SIII

There you go, summary of the review :)

The S3 and One X BOTH lost all CPU intensive benchmarks to the One S. The S3 won the GPU focused ones. It certainly wasn't the landslide victory that S3 fans claim. People a little objective impartiality please...

I don't agree with the sunlight comment. One X is actually better under sunlight, it is much brighter and doesn't reflect much. I thing the reviewer didn't test under sunlight before writing. One X has an lcd that is very different than the other lcd phones, it matches amoled in areas where amoleds have advantage and is brighter and have better resolution.

One XL (one X at&t) makes it even less clear -cut. It has better battery life, better performance in lot of tests and very clean audio output.
Btw i am pretty sure these cool software gizmos from siii will be ported to htc custom roms in no time ;)

I really dont care much of the design, what i need is the best performance here of the cpu and the gpu. S3 is the winner here. I'll go for s3! the best phone

Dave, 12 May 2012Why go 32 when you could have 64gb :D. I agree with everyth... moreLol, truth is 16gb(plus my 8gb memory card) would probably be more than ample for my needs and I would be one of the first to sport this king of droids.

However can't help but feel a bit greedy and opt for the 32gb especially if 1080p video recording eats tonnes of memory.

Sound like you waited too so kudos! As you say...well worth the wait.

Sitting here typing this on my One X I have to say all the games look amazing, silky smooth. Camera is great, Screen is awesome. I'm happy. I don't have a sg3 to compare the small differences with, so why would I worry? That and the fact it was free for 26quid a month XD

just an observation but.......people with ordinary looking phones are generally the very same people who state "looks don't matter" ;) lol.

S3 is the winner but not by much, the performance wise aspect goes to the s3 and the features too. was a close battle but the One X with no expanable memory and removable battery let it down big time. and whats beats by dre? i would of expected the htc to win that but it was all hype. got to hand it to the HTC for doing well but the s3 wins this time round.
