IOS is a single tasked device with app switcher, itsn not a true multitasking

My phone: Samsung Captivate bought on July 2009, loaded with Android 1.6. My wife's phone: iphone 4S bought in December 2010. So....I really knows what I am talking about.

Iphone 4s only came out in 2011 so you dont know what your talking about! haha!

The one function I could use all day round and I'm still missing is a real PDF printer for iOS.

I mean one the installs into the "Print" environment, and allows for using that Print from out of any app that can print.

Just like it works in OS X or Linux or (with help of any of the available utilities) Windows.

I'm not aware iOS or any app for it can do this.
Am I mistaken? I certainly hope so!

My phone: Samsung Captivate bought on July 2009, loaded with Android 1.6. My wife's phone: iphone 4S bought in December 2010. So....I really knows what I am talking about.

Siri - is the 1st voice commanded app from Apple, and of course must be better than Android's one wich exists as far as I know since the 1st version......let me think......from 5 years ago?

Facebook integration - My Captivate had Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, Txt msg, etc....since I bought it.

iMessage - no txt messages charges for you if you sent from your iphone to another iphone? Really???? this is realy amazing and innovative....Yes?....No?......When you are going to send a txt message from my Captivate, it asks you if you want to send as an e-mail, then you do not need to spend your txt messages quota.

TomTom Maps with turn by turn navigation - My Captivate does that too, since the 1st version. OK. The TomTom's birds eye view is really cool but in the other hand with the Android's Google Maps update when you arrive at the location you have the street view.

Passbook e-ticket app handles loyalty coupons, boarding passes, tickets - this is really good since is integrated with the OS.

Safari web browser with full screen - Ohhhhhhhhhh. This is really super new hein? Sorry my Captivate had it since the beggining. And hopefully the new iOS 6.0 Safari can load Adobe Flash content.

Unified iMessage and Facetime Id? - Ohhhhhhhhh. Sorry....when I synch ALL my contacts from Gmail, Facebook, LinkedIn, Viber, etc....with my Android 1.6 Captivate Contacts I do not have duplicated contacts. It is smart enough to recognize when you have the same person in different social network accounts. It merges all in one.

New UI from Appstore - Finally, Google Play store looks much better and also is much more organized.

You can set songs from your music library as alarm tones - Really? .......This is amazing, doesn't it? My 1st phone that could play mp3 files from 6 years ago (I am not talking about my Captivate now) could do that. And before that you could that. You simply buy a freaking expensive ringtone from Apple

Better privacy settings - Every time you have an update in any operational system (does not matter if is Ios, Android, Windows..... this is a developers obligation. Should not even mentioned. Talking about privacy.....Did you buy an iphone to have more privacy and you have a Facebook account????????? Oh SHUT UP!!!!

New accessibility options and guided access (single-app mode for kids) - This is really cool.

Re-organized settings, various new icons - Every time you have an update in any operational system (does not matter if is Ios, Android, Windows..... ) needs to bring a better UI.

Improved HDR camera function - same as above.

all the others - same as above.

About the 3 NEW WALLPAPERS!!!!!!! This is really an innovation.

Bruce Wayne, 14 Jun 2012I'm truly disappointed, still looking like older iOS versio... moreWhat about android changing designs for every new OS ?
Most of users still use 2.3 or 2.2 and basic reason is constantly changing design.

3.0 came and 4.0 came as well , less than 1/10th users use it and nobody (even developers has no interest in honeycomb ...........big reason is because of its 'different' design and same with ICS which is different from 2.2 and 2.3.

Every developer prefers iOS and always release most of their stuff first on iOS because its layout and UI remain but android means its risky , today they make an app and tomorrow it wont work because OS design is changed. So its easy to make apps because of fewer devices.

            Optimization is different from Design.

iOS 4 scored 11 on html5 reading tests and iOS 5 scored 37 on same test and on same device.

Same looks but difference is whats inside them.

How much time u spend on home screen ? REAL EXPERIENCE starts when u launch an app.
Even camera or contacts is also considered as an app on iOS or Android.

AnonD-21645, 14 Jun 2012I recently purchased an iPad 3 - but have had (and always w... moreNow i want to ask you what is the use of back button ?
              just seriously i ask u.

              What is its function ?
So , take an example :
1.I pressed music app and now that app is launched , i started playing music.
2.I press back button (like u mentioned) , it takes me to home screen
3.now i press back button again , it does nothing .........
4.but according to "definition of back button" , if i pressed back button in home screen in step 2 , it must take me to music app but it doesn't.

Basically back button u mentioned is partially 'undo' button because music doesn't stop playing , in web browser for example if u are streaming a song on a web page and u press back button , the song stops streaming and u go into previous URL which is complete 'undo' button.

In iOS to avoid confusion , they implement back button on App it self in UI instead of having meaningless back button.

dont get me wrong, i seriously cosidering ipad as my next tablet, ios is good on ipad but not smart enouh on iphone to cover all my needs, there is so much thing that ios on iphone need to catch up on from android, the problem is apple is always too full of himself, and dont really see what peope needs and whants, for ex this update ,ios6 i catually laughed when i see the change log from ios5, becaus my custo rom changelog from version 1,1-1,2 is literally longer and adding really much much more useful feature to my device.

android for phones, maybe apple for tablets

                    [deleted post]Thanks!

I think it genuinely is the best of both worlds to have an iPad and Android phone - the amount of people I've know who aren't even that tech-savvy getting 'bored' with the iPhone are too many to count (maybe not THAT many!) but I'd go mad at being treated basically like a child (a stupid one at that) every day by the manufacturer of my phone... sure, make as many restrictions as you like, but give the individual the CHOICE to turn these restrictions off!

Unbelievable how far behind iOS is compared to even Windows Mobile in this respect... it desperately needs a good kick up the @rse by someone at Apple...

I would be ashame to even report the changes like these as the main points of the new OS version. I mean, for FFS, You could change the alarm tone in a Nokia 10 years ago.
I'll stick to my Sony Xperia S, thanks :)

You know what I find funny, that those guys who think they invent something new actually just copy everything and then put it in an appleways design. Then the larger public gets crazy for nothing because those adult infants were all 'dumbphone' users till the iphone 3g or gs came out and decided to buy an iPhone because it looks cool if I''m around my friends.

although I have never been a real fan of blackberry, at least they had a real goal. Also even palm treo which was a windows mobile based device, could beat ios 6 in functionality.

Who cares about that basic stuff, I mean c'mon. Our phones from 10 years ago had voice dialing...sorry Siri and what a about notification center??? Biggest joke ever! Sorry I take that back because now we have the option to not get a notification in your face when you are busy with the phone, like every other device out there. Anyways its full of gimmicks we won't use and lacks stuff we really need. i do like the design but I find it a real pitty.

not to say android is much better because android has its lame approach as well but for me, an android phone will be always the better choice.

Four finger swipe and you can move next older apps. Its very handy, maybe you didnt knew this. Search Google: Ipad multitouch gestures.

Theres good reason why you need to put your password again. Others cant use your account it works 15 minutes and after that you need to write password again.. Im not sure about your pasword, my password is six letters and its very very easy to write. I really dont see problem here.

But updating apps should work without password and ios6 going to fix that.

I recently purchased an iPad 3 - but have had (and always will have) an Android phone...

Being new to iOS - it's astounding at just how unnecessarily restrictive it is... Just a few basic examples...

                            - not being able to scroll windows so they 'wrap' around to screen 1 again
                            - not being able to change tones or notifications to whatever sound you want
                            - not being able to place a folder or icon exactly where you want
                            - the constant 'click an app, it opens another app, having to close it all down and click original app again' (lack of traditional 'back' button)
                            - having to enter my damned password every time I want to purchase an app!

Would allowing the owner to change any of the above really make such a performance hit? And if it would, what does that say about Apple's technology?

I mean take a look at this from GSM's preview

"First you won't be prompted to enter your password when you just update apps. Second, you can see the change log in the Updates screen without actually opening the info screen.

Finally, after you buy or update apps you will no longer be kicked back to the homescreen - you can continue browsing the store. You can launch apps you've already installed from within the store too"

I mean it's taken SIX iterations just to get this far - but I bet if I leave my ipad alone for 5 minutes, and then want to download an app - it'll ask me for my password AGAIN (and not just any password I want, of course not, it has to be 46 characters with a number, capital and all that jazz)

It's nowhere near as 'intuitive' as people would have you believe...

Don't get me wrong - nothing compares (tablet-wise) to an iPad - purely because of the wealth of apps (nothing to do with the device, kudos to developers there) but would you want that level of restriction in your pocket 24/7 no thanks. I like to be too much of an individual for that.

Thanks for comment but i'm going to buy iPhone. It works very well with my iPad, i can use same apps, same accessories etc. Why would i want to change for another ecosystem.

Also if i do the change i go for WP8. Why you android users try so much conver people to buy android device?

Just recently came statics that android customers satisfaction is under 50% (iPhone 79%). Also this year sold iPhones 40% users came from blackberry and android. Also every research says android users are more easier to go for different platform.

All of these and still these people try to say hey buy android phone its superior, yeah right. Why so many want to leave from that superior OS...

I'm truly disappointed, still looking like older iOS versions, I was expecting important changes in the UI design, I can compare Apple's Design to Porsche's, take the iPhone and compare it to the Porsche 911, the first Porsche 911 appeared in 1963 and after 49 years (1963-2012) it still looks the same no big changes actually, and it is what it happend with all Apple products and of course we all wish someday Apple products can be as reliable as Porsche cars are today, because let's face it Apple products fail all the time.

My veredict: If you already have an iPhone don't waste your money on the on coming iPhone as it would be the same phone that you already have, just update it to iOS6.

If you don't have an iPhone don't even bother on buying on because it isn't that great and they all look the same, instead try superior devices like the SGS 3, HTC One X or the Xperia S which have a better design, are more powerful and faster than Apple's little iPhone and of course Bluetooth works with any device and they include the fantastic Android 4.0 which is a very complete OS.

My prediction: As Porsche has showed us during more than 49 years you can always use the same boring design and Apple has take note of that, so my predictions are this:

1.- Expect the same iPhone design for at least 40 years more.

2.- If for a couple of years more, people that were hypnotized by Apple's marketing wakes up and realize how unpleasant is to pay high a quantity of money for the same product year after year and see no big changes and decided to stop throwing their money away with Apple products then you can expect Apple to be in a bankruptcy for their lack of innovation.

Final Conclusion: Anyways it's your decision on what you spend your money, but as a intellectual been from today I won't buy anymore Apple products, Apple had it's time, but now it's getting old and lazy just like Blackberry and it's financial issues.

Thank's GSMARENA for letting me now how iOS6 looks like, excellent review!
