if an iphone had been in the comparison, the conclusion would have been different. it's better than the 808.
the iphone had bested dslrs long before the pureniew.

Amazing!!! Maybe those high-end DSLRs from Canon and Nikon don't have any reasons to fear 808, but P&S are useless now since the price of a top P&S camera is equal or higher than PV's price and you get a high-end smartphone with it...
@Olympus: Discontinue E-PL2, it was beaten in almost every circumstance by Nokia 808, a cameraphone that Olympus folks considered a joke... I can't stop laughing at them, now their "top camera" was beaten by the "joke"...

The only problem i have is that the chipset for windows phone 8 will support a maximum of 20 mpx.sure nokia can make a 20 mpx pureview but it wont have so much lossless zoom like the 808. I think that nokia will make some incredible phones in the near future.with windows 8 pureview tehnologi and nanotehnologi as they admited them selves i think that tipe of phone will be amazing

Epic article, thanks GSMArena. I hope the full review is coming soon, but this is all I need to know. By the way, don't forget to test the rich sound recording too, as in "going to a concert and recording really loud things" to show people if it can be done without the usual YouTube amateur recording sound quality.

I was right. Looking at the original big pictures, you can see that 808 resolves more detail than Olympus. Even when 808 is only 8 Mpix and Olympus is 12 Mpix. From the black and white city scene the difference is clear to see. Noise reduction in Olympus destroys details when it's making the image look less grainy.
And like I said before, I always prefer the spared detail as you can always reduce the noise in Photoshop if needed, but Photoshop cannot add the missing detail back. So 808 is a clear winner from these two also in high ISO situations.

SE Satio, Vivaz, Samsung Pixon, Nokia N86, N8 and 808. I am a Nexus S user and it is difficult even to find a decent camera app that is more flexible. All I found are those crappy instagram toy. A deeper Google search revealed that the limitation in Android do not allow some of the camera setting to be change so I assjme it is far easier to achieve this on a Symbian phone than an Android phone (does not means it is impossible though).

STUNNINGLY AMAZING!!!!!!!! Just the mere fact that this humble device beat the pro-cams in the tests with no fixed ISO is utterly mind blowing!!! I am buying 808 without flinching! And if it get's lost or stolen, I'm buying another one!

From a quick look at the high ISO crops only, I would argue that 808 retains more detail than the Olympus and is pretty much in par with Canon DSLR. The differences in image sizes makes this a harder thing to notice.
Olympus is using strong noise reduction which is eating up the details. However Nokia traditionally isn't using much noise reduction, but opting for retaining detail. And I always prefer the Nokia's approach as you will never get the detail lost in NR back in Photoshop after the picture has been taken, but you can always lessen the noise in Photoshop afterwards.
And there still wasn't a test using the 5 megapixel PureView mode which will produce the best low light quality for 808. The individual pixel size grows to 4 µm which is in DSLR area.

This camera technology is brilliant. Lets see what Nokia has to offer this year around. I also have to admit the WP 7.5 is quite useable and very nice. Can't wait for the 7.8 update.
Nokia is going in the right direction but they need to move forward a little quicker as the competition is only getting hotter especially with Apple (X) is around the corner and Jelly Bean too.

Even the 1600 ISO Photos could come up pretty nice with a bit of Photoshop. One question GSM Arena, I hope you investigate this for the full review: can 808 Pureview record in RAW format?

What about comparison to canon s100? that is more idea vs the best compact point and shoot that can fit in your pocket.
