Nokia 808 PureView review: Photo Finnish

22 June 2012
The Nokia 808 PureView is the best cameraphone ever made. End of story. Now, how do you proceed from there? And why is this particular phone so hard to write about? How about because a picture is worth a thousand words and we just had a...

808PV is only 640x360 resolution and this 808PV is 1.3ghz, if with such CPU, it can't perform well, then NOKIA can really go bang wall! and Belle/Symbian is not a great OS but I don't think it is bad until can't perform smooth on such low resolution 640x360.

Anonymous, 24 Jun 2012But what's wrong with Belle OS if PV technology was success... moreI never talk on year 2016, this is somehow stupid talk on year 2016. It is another user talk.

Why I need to use my phone until year 2016. No need 2016, in year 2013, a lot more gorgeous phone / tech will out.

Any phone is out-date within a year.

The problem of belle is it is not a great OS core.

read the review, gsmarena is very happy with belle fp1 performance.
im not saying that s3 isnt fast, just that it needs a lot more power to be smooth as opposed to wp, ios and even symbian.

Nobody here (a Nokia thread) want to hear your opinions about S3, we are different(=smart), we give credits to INNOVATION, we don't need quad-cores to play some games or to navigate the manus or homescreens of a phone! Even on my laptop I don't have 4 cores (just 2) because is JUST ENOUGH for daily use. For software development (BTW, I develop both for Android and Symbian and can tell you that for android is much easyer to develop but the performance of apps is not near native apps on Symbian, while Symbian developing is just for professional programmers, maybe that's why it did not got so much support from developers, because there are not so many pro engineers on C/C++ than on JAVA) I use an Ubuntu desktop with lots of ram and cores, of course.

True no quadcore games or apps, but not means it is bad. In overall, performance anytime is better.

You can keep denying on it, you shall try use S3 to browse internet before you talk.

Belle (or any Symbian) is the worst in browsing experience. It can't even beat an old phone Google Nexus One that release few years ago.

Belle (and all Symbian) is a dead OS, as it implement badly, only those Nokia fans that never try others OS like iPhone OS or Android, or even Windows Phone, will keep continue said how good how great Symbian are.

can you imagine what a dual core wp8 phone will do?

i guess s3 will be remembered only as being slightly faster than s2 and slightly slower than s4. reading the gsmarena review, it seems all that power goes only on eye-candy, because there are no games and apps that utilize quad core.
again, its a powerful phone, but the way it delivers is far from stelar. other platforms on single core put this phone to shame

i know, the phone's processing power is enough for it.....Is it the UI, apps, or other hardware: screen, size, etc. that makes it unsuitable?...or perhaps the OS is deemed to die soon?...well, i think it was just an announcement that nokia made..but maybe they are not sure...2016 is still far far away..lol..things may change...& N808PV is a part of that change...still struggling...haha...anyway, we call it a healthy competition...

808PV will be much a better phone if only it is at least a 800x480 resolution (640x360 is too low for now).

And importantly don't use Belle OS. I know Nokia won't use Android, at least Nokia don't stop Meego, or at least tide this with Windows Phone.

Also, Nokia is design gorgeously in all LUMIA series, but this 808PV is just way too ugly the overall look, it don't even have LUMIA outstanding look.

I can only said 808PV is a middle range phone (because the spec wise is not high end enough for now except the camera itself only) with FANTASTIC CAMERA.

Hardware part is nothing to compare and how could you compare with cheap ICS Android devide. Those low end Android device is something I also can't accept as it can power up the Android functionality and performance in proper.

S3 hardware part is well known, what the point I repeat here.

Everyone know it is the most faster phone at the moment. No phone is able to beat it performance at the moment. It even faster than Asus transformer prime tablet. Probably only HTC One XL that release in certain country only that beat certain score, but not all, browsing performance wise is a big tag different. Nothing is beatable at the moment for phone.

The camera is true same 8MP, but it is a well update from S II, well know it use same sensor in iPhone4s which manufacture by Sony. A good camera is not means high megapixel will be better. (Don't get me wrong here, Nokia is doing a great high MP and fantastic camera quality in this 808PV).

Even though the screen is only pentile, but is 1280x720 resolution with high ppi serving a great viewing, it is much better and nicer than S II. Higher resolution make everything perfect look and better for browsing. This is somewhat Nokia shall not continue using 640 x360 resolution in this new 808PV.

Also I never denied Nokia 808PV camera is fantastic gorgeous! That why I said previously this phone is great on camera.

But remember this, great hardware must tide with great OS. Belle is not a great OS. I rather this 808PV came with Windows Phone than this Belle.

Even I tell you also reject everything, so w... morewow...you are a good writer man....i believe you, SGS3 is such a monster phone...nothing can withstand its Multimedia capabilities & processing power...we can't compare it right now with N808PV since it is not out yet globally...we'll see in the near future about how its performance fares with SGS3 & other phones...

I have to say that you point out the strengths of SGS3 objectively which i really commend. But you listed more on the software part which could be implemented on any OS through updates & apps unless patented by samsung or other developers.

The main reason why we are here is to see a one of a kind Innovation which nokia had created, the pureview technology..It integrates both hardware(41MP sensor) & software(oversampling tech). Though we can say, taking pictures & videos are not a big deal...yes, its true..but this is something new & very interesting...& can make you stand out if you have this phone...

on the other hand, processing & browsing speed have already been addressed and brought by many phone manufacturers. & up to the present, they are still competing on the same thing..oh come on..how fast is fast...time will come that there won't be any difference anymore...everything will be the same...

PS. SGS3 is an awesome phone..it's unbeatable in most areas, i admit...i envy you for having it...well, i hope you won't be angry by my comments..I'm not really into comparing phones, I just want to know how the new nokia phone & its new tech could fit into my needs....

For me camera and audio quality are the most important features of a phone. Because I don't want to wear 3 devices. The better the camera and audio player - the more attractive the phone. Apps don't interest me at all, cause I don't waste my short life for games. As such, nearly matching the quality of a 1800 EUR camera this is the perfect phone for me. Only wished Nokia could add FLAC support

How many are great only in fandroids eyes? How much did you pay for your SGS3? How big is your pocket, cause you don't complain about it's size? You may say 808 is bulky but it's not too wide and tall to fit in pocket and it's still not too chubby to fit there. And if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. Nokia has said that it's not phone for everyone. Like somebody already said it's CAMERAphone for pros. Not toy for teens.

yep, i thought so. all of the things you mentioned can be used on s2 with 3rd party apps

ive compared the s3 with a wp lumia
the ui of the wp is far smoother and browsing is similar in speed. how sad that the 4 cores are not used properly.

maybe if android evolves enough to use that power, it will be good.
its a joke seeing single core phones perform better than dual even quad core androids. but hey, youll always have benchmarks to justify your purchase lol

Anyway, if you want to know how impress there are, here is my review (if bad I will said bad, I won't said everything in S3 is great, at least the S-Voice is not so great).

                                      - Battery life is great, at least it was better a lot than my previous SII-G.
                                      - The bundle headset is the 1st headset I can accept, it sound good. I never can accept any phone bundle headset before.
                                      - The music player not only gorgeous look but extreme great functioning! The "Music Square" where you can drag your song to be more exciting, passionate, joyful and calm.. base on your selection mood... and then it will generate a playlist base on your song available in your phone according to your mood listening is working awesome. SoundAlive auto set sound setting (pop, rock or whatever) base on your playback song is working perfect, I try few different type song and it really work as I set it as rock and some song is same when choose auto and rock, but when playing soft song, then it is different, this proof the SoundAlive - auto is working.
                                      - The video player is the best so far in the market! Now I feel I am wasting money on my previous purchase of MX Video and Dice Player, as I not needed anymore now.
                                      - The 8 burst shot with function of selecting the best shot for you is awesome and working flawlessly. Another 20 burst shot is amazing!
                                      - Video record is stunning! I love it 1080P video record.
                                      - Direct Call - this is one of the best feature that not to miss, it really helping you direct calling the person you half way SMS by only sliding your phone to ear.
                                      - Stay Awake - Now I no longer worried phone turn off when surfing internet, play games, reading novel and etc.
                                      - Browsing speed is extremely fast, I never seen any phone can browse internet that fast before, it is confirm loading much much faster than iPhone4s.
                                      - Screen is finger print & dusk free, loving it less finger print issue. Now my phone always clean.
                                      - S Voice - this is working but not so accurate, and highly recommended disable the wake up command and don't use it, as it will randomly restart your launcher once you on it until next reboot.
                                      - The new TouchWiz is the best ever did by Samsung, it was good, but I still prefer and highly recommended using Nova Launcher Prime, which more on customization, speed and stable
                                      - Performance wise is unbeatable fast! after using custom kernel is much robust now!

Don't denied on Symbian, is it pure dead where Nokia also plan on abandon itself. Nokia out MeeGo and is a survive point for Nokia, but Nokia abandon it as well, and pick Windows Phone... So basically Nokia want to be a head of phone market, possibility is pretty low now.
