Nokia 808 PureView review: Photo Finnish

22 June 2012
The Nokia 808 PureView is the best cameraphone ever made. End of story. Now, how do you proceed from there? And why is this particular phone so hard to write about? How about because a picture is worth a thousand words and we just had a...

I had so many Symbian Phones before, touch & non-touch screen. But let's face it & be honest, this OS falls behind iOS & Androids now in terms of touch screen experience & many other things. GSMArena knows that & said that in many reviews. I don't think the 41 Megapixel can rectify the OS' shortcomings. Do you?

Adamant, 28 Jun 2012From other review sites : Nokia 808's perfomance in ever... moreFrom what website was that? Because there is many of those that can't make an objective review but thinks Android and iOS are the only way. They don't even try to look Symbian like it could be capable OS.

Nokia isn't even advertising this phone very much. It doesn't fully belong to their plan cause it's been on its way for 5 years, much before Mr Elops plans became and set Nokia to fall. Maybe only reason of not abandoning PureView was that it can be put in WP. Mr Elop doesn't have any expectations even on this kind of Symbian phone so Nokia surely isn't waiting for any high numbers of it's sale.

I'm exited to see what kind of numbers this is going to sell. If it gets to same numbers as N8 I'm sure it's over Nokias expectations. If it sells even as few as N9(600 000) did it will probably fulfil its duty in Nokias eyes.

The review actually is just one of the few reviews I read, but almost all of them basically sound the same - Excellent Camera, Very Bad OS, Poor Screen Resolution. I'm just disappointed with this phone. It's been a while since Nokia came out with a good phone & I thought Nokia had a good chance with this one but they blew it up. But it doesnt mean I wont buy this. It's just that, Nokia could've done a lot better.

Jason, 28 Jun 2012Depends on what you mean by everyday use. Other than takin... moreHow can enjoy videos & photos with that low resolution screen?Everyday use means the smoothness & user-friendliness of the touch screen experience, those cool effects that Androids & IPhones have. Not to mention those cool applications that you can use everyday. You dont buy a cellphone because of the camera. Nokia should've done better with this phone by increasing the screen resolution or by using the Windows OS instead. But then again, it wont have USB mass storare & memory card support. But I think it's better like that than having an outdated, unfriendly & dull-looking OS.

Adamant, 28 Jun 2012From other review sites : Nokia 808's perfomance in ever... morethis is a bad press...totally....biased..

"Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for Apple's iPhone or Samsung's Galaxy S III or even Galaxy S II for that matter. "

= it needs to be specific. N808 for everyday has great battery life, the most legible screen in all weather conditions, straightforward interface for fast use, & much better reception & the best build quality (not better but the best, no need to question this).

"When you set the extraordinary camera aside there are phones that cost half as much as Nokia 808 and can perform better in everyday use."

=this is N808PV, it should be as it should be...please don't exclude the camera...if it can handle a great camera, it means that its no ordinary phone & can handle mostly anything...

"Nokia is making one of their last efforts to attract customers and provide the networks and their partners with something that can be advertised and sold."

= common sense..this a world of business...who would not want to sell more....not a last effort but a continued innovation & a strategy...take note that this technology was 5 years in the making...& it should be appreciated rather than saying that its a desperate move...

"At least in that case a 41 MP camera will probably make the sell easier than any possible reason to buy a Lumia Windows phone. I really think that Nokia 808 will find some buyers willing to spend the money needed to experience the difference of the 41 MP camera but I also think their numbers will be below Nokia expectations."

= you're making a conclusion already...& you are the only few who had handled the phone...let us see after it has been released worldwide...it may be below expectations, but imaging will never be the same...

Other than taking top of the notch Photos and Videos with superb sound quality,
I can listen to music with high quality player, i can watch 1080p HD videos, i can browse website with flash content, i can download youtube videos, i can whatsapp with my friends, i can do 3G video calls, i can use my N8 as a mass storage, i can copy my files to and fro from thumbdrive and my phone, i can use my turn by turn voice navigation, i can set different photos for different homescreen and many more.
There are so many things i cannot do with iphone like copy files to other devices without itunes, i cannot browse flash website, i cannot do 3G video calls...etc.
There are also many things i cannot do on droid phones like turn by turn voice navigation (at least not for now), i cannot set different photos for different homescreen, is there a youtube downloader? I hate the tedious steps to close a browser.. always need to back back back...etc.

ahmed, 27 Jun 2012my dear , in this link , compare colors between this 3 cam... morenope sgs3 & sony have washed out colors & lack of detail...the yellow tint you noticed are the details of the skin...& perhaps you don't really know how to use the photo compare tool...maybe what you saw is the full res 38 mp sample..not the 8mp pureview sample, the one that they used in the blind test...there's an option to change the scaling..you can see it at the center part...try to see "scaled to 8MP"..at this resolution, 808 is much realistic, full of life & detailed..

Remember, this is still not in PureView mode just 38 MP scale down, in PureView mode the image in even better.
