Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 preview: A closer look

10 September 2012
The Samsung Galaxy Note II is the epitome of the "go big or go home" mantra. From the screen, processing power, through the software package and the revival of the stylus, everything has been pushed right to the very edge of current technology...

Now that's an elaborate "preview"! Is there a limit on the duration of screen capture (in terms of minutes/MB)?

An excellent device from all accounts, though what you can actually use it for is another question. You are right about the hardware exceeding the software by a long way. I just cant help be be of the view this is the last of the Note series and wp8 just might exceed all expectations, if it all comes together as people are suggesting. I have a Note 1 for presentations, which great, but it is not a netbook replacement. I think same hardward as Note II running wp8 will plug the gap and blow even this device out of the water. The market is a fickle and Android stands to be the greatest looser as they are not adapting quick enough. Certainly Note II hardware running wp8 would completely blow the market apart. I reckon Samsung will do it, and soon, because if they dont someone else will.

Hi all, Apple user here.. I've own two Macbook Pro since 2006 and loving them. Mac OS is certainly the most advanced OS out there. But I never own an iPhone. Would love to own one (waiting for the highly-anticipated iPhone 5). But this, Samsung Galaxy Note II, really get me thinking hard.

Yes, the iPhone 5 is not announced yet, but basically it's the same thing, a little bit taller, maybe new material. Same old iOS(nothing wrong with that) but for me, it is becoming a bit boring the OS. Although not personally owning any iOS device, I regularly use my brother's iPad, and sometimes play with my sister's iphone 4. Yes, it is well thought design and the apps are a joy to use. But for me, I want to see more and experience more. With Touch Wiz (or HTC Sense) and Android, it looks like they can offer more. Add a stylus and it suddenly becomes much much better because you will not be depending on the stylus, but if u want, u can use it anytime. It's better because it is there. I know Apple stands by their policy not to use stylus, but I hope they'll change their mind because the technology is expanding.

I always hope that Apple can come out with a device like this Samsung Galaxy Note because normally Apple are associated with the creative people that own and use Apple Mac with Adobe's, Final Cut etc.. A stylus is certainly a creative tool that is also a very powerful tool instead of just our blunt fingers.

Anyway, i will wait for tomorrow's iPhone 5 launch. But will certainly put this Note II a heavy consideration for my next mobile device. Well maybe i will go for this Note II first, and hope that sometimes in the near future, Apple can come out with similar device. Ipad mini sounds good, but it is still not a phone. And the size is also bigger, this Note II is already borderline for what I can call comfortable to put in my jeans' pocket.

Isn't page 2 design and BUILD QUALITY???

I cant find anything on this in the article.

I have read a lot of comments about the SGS3 build quality being poor, I used one yesterday for the first time and its streets ahead of my Note.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2012Craps, I go for Iphone 5 anytime over this, those who buy t... moreOr execs/admen/designers who actually need to be productive on the go. A drawing/handwriting board is more powerful than you think kiddo.

On a side Note, iPhone's predicted screen size is a big turnoff. And if they truly stopped using Exynos SoCs as the base of the A6X processor and Samsung's nand flash memory, the CPU and RAM will be kinda crappy. That new PowerVR GPU better be good to even compensate.

This is a device where the specs take a "back-seat" compared to features. The spec list is good, but nothing too extra ordinary. There will be phones in 2012 which will have more power. But this is not the concern here. From GS3 to Note 2, Samsung have included so many news features that it's hard to list them all.

                            Pop-up play
                            Best photo
                            Air View
                            Pop up note
                            Photo note
                            OCR
                            Easy clip
                            Quick commands
                            S Pen context page

These are just something top of my head. I am sure there are many more. Competition is silent. Is there anyone willing to challenge? It's not just about specs, it's about what you can do with it.

We are getting closer to the one device to rule them all.

Can this replace my Sony Vaio Z laptop for business use such as excel and apps, Not as yet but getting close.

As more softwares move to SAAS model, and Phablet getting more powerful, within a couple of years I say.

Love the Galaxy Note, can't wait to upgrade.

Though you got to give HTC some credit for moving to 4.3" HTC HD, then Dell Streak 5" before Samsung dominated this category.

Any new Phablet that is less than 5.5" screen will FAIL. HTC and LG TAKE NOTE.

COME to daddy Galaxy Note 2

AnonD-70822, 10 Sep 2012woa , THis Note 2 is really a monster phablet :X . Love it ... moreI guess the resolution was downgraded as a non pentile AMOLED was being used , i woldn't worry too much about it , as said in the review the perceived sharpness (the one that really matters instead of the ppi craze that is going on) is actually higher than the original note.
The thing that relieved me the MOST was that all the software tricks from S3 are present in Note 2...was scared that Samsung would not include the cool features from S3 (like SmartStay) just to give S3 some sort of edge over the Note 2...glad that didnt happen.
