Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 review: Writing home

3 October 2012
Samsung has produced many great handheld devices in its time, but few have reached iconic status. The company builds its success on great adaptability, an eye for trends and a knack for improving on others’ successful formulas. And yet...

However, about the part of "turning anything into a stylus", I beg to differ. The stylus in the Note 2 is not a simple stick capable of touching the screen. The Note has a built in digitalizer, which is why it's capable of detecting those 1024 degrees of pressure.

The difference with the Lumia is it has a super sensitive screen the Note 2 doesn't, but also lacks a built in digitalizer. Therefore, it doesn't support anymore than 1 level of pressure, unless you buy an expensive stylus.

Not all capacitive stylus are the same. The Lumia and the Note 2 are targeted to very different buyers, you can't compare apples to oranges.

I dont know why we are even comparing the lumina 910 and the note 2... they are totally different devices.

The 910 is thick and heavy (for its size), has a lot smaller screen, has no SD card slot and a pretty small battery. On the up side the camera is probably better, it has DCHSDPA and a higher res screen.

It's the size of an A6 Moleskine notebook that fits an ordinary top pocket. Stop comparing this to an ordinary smartphone. The Note is a mini pocketable computer that happens to have cellphone capabilities.

You just need a smartphone that has incomplete performance and features that the Note embodies, just like a recently released metallic one. You're satisfied with even with something that hasn't been released yet! You stick to that and be limited as you desire.

Does it makes sense comparing a lumia to a note II? Well I can't launch an app with a Lumia using a fork or nail isn't it? That's the main indea of the stylus of Note II, added functionality.

Only two things missing from this review:

                        1) BATTERY TEST. On another site an hour of video (Airplane and max brightness) used 17% of the note, 13% of the S3 and 8% of the note 2 so i'm expecting big things.

                        2) SPLIT SCREEN. This is the biggest software feature to come out for a while. I think its probably not on GSMarena's version yet but would like an updated review when it is.

rotem, 03 Oct 2012If you want to carry the pen just to "hovering" t... moreThe Note's Wacom "S" Pen system is an active type, meaning it receives input from the pen like the 1024 pressure sensitivity, and has an extra sheet of sensor behind the capacitor screen to sense the S Pen.

What you're describing the Lumia as having is a combination of capacitive (senses the magnetic input of your finger) and resistive (you need to tap pressure the screen). It's not "new" tech.

The Note works fine even without the using the S Pen and this Wacom tech has been used with pen tablets used for illustrating with the computers. The S Pen can be stowed away at the back and so you need not "carry" it around. The Note now even alerts you if you happen to forget to put it back after walking a few steps away.

Another excellent Samsung product. All it needs is the Blackberry messaging and email system and the WP8 office integration, and you have an unbeatable tool. As it stands at the moment, bragging rights, photo manipulation, movies and games are all it really has to offer, but it is still no great business tool.

woo hoo should be getting the note 2 today.
Had the original note and it was fantastic. The note 2 is an upgrade but I would say not major though.
My only concern is the reduce width but lets see when I get it.

Can't wait to have this beast in my hand
