Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 review: Writing home

3 October 2012
Samsung has produced many great handheld devices in its time, but few have reached iconic status. The company builds its success on great adaptability, an eye for trends and a knack for improving on others’ successful formulas. And yet...

Let me start off by saying I read a lot of online reviews and this one is one of the best I have ever read. I admit I am actually posting this a few weeks later than what I would have wanted to. When I was hungry for information at this phone launch, this reviewer (or gsmarena team, if that's how you want to be identified as :) ) quenched my thirst.

I visit gsmarena day very often for the reliable specification of mobile phones. Never thought they could come out with reviews like this. Appreciate the attention to detail the writer has shown. There was only I thing I could do after reading this review, BUY the phone :)

Please don't interpret this as the reviewer being positively biased towards the product :P

I can now say (after owning the phone for 3 weeks) that this is a stunner of a phone. One of the best screens u could ever see on a mobile device, blacks are truly black and colors are vibrant as you love. Way better outdoor / sunlight readability than all other AMOLEDs / SAMOLEDs. Very intuitive software and UI, blazing fast operation and close-to-none benchmark results. Hate to give credit, but I have to give it up to Samsung for the work they have put in on this device. I have to admit this is the sturdiest feeling Samsung phone yet. Plastics aren't cheap one bit and it sure has a premium feel. I am not comparing this to the premium feel or look the iphone 5 gives but then if you are spending half the money and getting twice the performance, no price for guessing who wins the Bang-for-the-buck award! Also bear in mind the real estate of this phone, iphone 5 with its 4 inch screen looks like the wannabe kid next door trying to the fight the HULK! :D

Totally in love with the phone and would suggest readers to go buy it if your card and your girlfriend allows you to :)

Disclaimer: I neither mean nor intend to convey any offence to apple users, its just a fair comparison.

P.S: This reviewer has successfully managed to make me his fan :)

i am having troubles with my note2 friends :(

i thought getting a big phone with a big touchscreen might help with my finger coordination and image but it doesn't

i thought this one might help because although it has no buttons like all the other big phones at least this one has a stylus

can anyone tell me if it is possible to disable the fingerscreen and use only the stylus?

because i keep on pressing things on the screen with my fingers accidentally and weird stuff happens

one time i pressed something and i saw my own face on the screen and it totally freaked me out like you wouldn't believe

          please help friends

          ???

Thanks to everyone who helped me to decide between the two colours, Titanium Grey is the colour that almost everyone voted for. So, now I've finally ordered the Note 2 in Titanium Grey!
                      Thanks guys.

Q: Is this phablet too big to carry around?

A: No. Guys who can't fit this phablet in his pants are wearing pants so skinny their sperm production is messed up. Girls don't carry phones in their pocket/skirts. They always carry it in their handbags.

Q: Is this phablet too big for one handed usage?

A: No. If you use it one handed exclusively i.e trying to reach every edge of the screen using your thumb then yes. But the thing is nowadays smartphones demand more two handed usage(qwerty keyboard, web browsing, pinch to zoom, setting the camera and so on and so forth). Even people with smaller screen use it two handed (3.5in iphone) and Blackberry users also use theirs two handed. So what's the one handed operation for? Unlocking screen, picking up calls, watching movies, watching slideshows, snapping pictures quickly without meddling with the settings, all which can be done on this phablet with no problem. So, NO the phablet is not too big for one handed operation.

**Those who said this phablet is too big for one handed usage most probably have only one hand which forced them to type on the landscape qwerty one handed and pinch to zoom while holding the device in the same hand. LOL imagine that.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2012In your opinion, which do you think is better? The noteII is definitely better... But if you already own a note, i suggest u hold on to it a bit longer... Cz the original note is already a very decent device...

I had an ipad for about a year alongside with a galaxy s2. After i got the note i rarely use the ipad... I think im gonna sell it real soon (plus my note) so i could get the note 2.

dudin, 14 Oct 2012i reckon an iphone5 camera was used to film lumia 920 video... morejust to make things clear....retina is a trademark name....it's not a technology. If you want to have innovative technologies look at the lumia 920....far more innovations than the iphone. Just in the camera department there are 3 nice ones.

As for the note 2 I don't get it...isn't a tablet better suited for work or a smartphone for everything else ?

I'm not trying to bash it, but being so in between size-wise one cannot wonder if it's not bad for either end of that spectrum.

Is it too much to ask all the reviewers on the internet to stop mentioning the big size as a negative point. I mean forget about the s pen, forget about the specs, forget everything... The size of this device is the MAIN reason why people are buying it... If it wasnt for its size no one would think about it... The big size is the top feature of this phone... Makes working on it (literally working, playing, watching, browsing, typing...) such a bliss...
