The past two years have been marked by dramatic extremes for our economy and the construction industry. As a result, this period may be one of the most volatile on record when it comes to pricing of construction supplies, materials and services.

this cellphone sucks! And it's incredible that a company like Nokia bring out a model with many problems.. and it's made for hard handset? AHAHAHA! This phone have a (common)issues.. nope, it's not about keypad, it's about no-signal. Nokia Center ask me 80€ for repair.. what? AHAHAHA!
        PS
Sometimes i have the privilege to see it work with signal, but only in this case: i try a 64k sim card from another mobile company, and seems work fine. Seems like have a problem with 124k sim cards (in some Countries). Anyway, i haven't already resolve..

Terrible standby time, the one I have achieves an incredible 22 hrs. It's like going back in time, when you had to carry 2 batteries and a charger around with you!

i bought one early this year.
at first i thought i had the best fone ever. with the nice sporty functions and mass storage thing...i became the envy of my bosses...

but now im starting ta ask if what i got is really of good quality. how could an outdoor phone be this fragile?

1.) the screw/lock for the battery cover was not well done.>>> i even opened it once!

2.) keypad stripping off from the unit...>>> im not even a texter and i dont do much of outdoor activities...

3.) and just lately... it cant pick up any signal... i need to send it to a nokia center and hav it checked again...

              wow!!!!

i wouldve bought somthin cheaper... i shouldve known!

We have THREE of these all under two months old and all three keypad covers have come off. Nokia service is totally useless- they expect me to send all three away for three weeks or more.
They say they have never heard of the problem. Do yourself a favour google the problem !!! I'm not the only one. Nokia have a BIG problem with these phones

has anyone used this phone for more than a few weeks?

i bought one and within a month the "rugged" front keypad had peeled off up to the screen. all from very lightweight use, nothing more rough than being kept in a pocket.

sent it to be repaired on the 27/9 and i still haven't got it back (it's now the 11/11). the repair center have lied to me repeatedly on the phone about repair progress (best was going from "it's repaired and we shipped it back to you this morning" to "it's in the workshop waiting for spares" in 3 days, no kidding) and nokia have been completely unhelpful. so the retailer insists it's not their problem, nokia insist it's the repair center's problem and will not refund/replace, and the repair center chronically lies to its customers.

the entire experience has left me sick, i don't think i'll be going back to nokia in a hurry.

                      Great phone
5500 is the phone i have been waiting for..
from the 5100 to the 5140 but it always wasnt good enough, they had all the funcitions but didnt look to good but now the 5500 is IN...
but a Compass and 3G would have been nice..
a compass is ideal for outdoor.. and with 3G for style...
but anyhow thats sales... never making the perfect phone so we have to continue looking for one.. but this is the closses and thats great.....
                      Good work guys...................

I would say the downfalls on this are:

                        1. The low video resolution (there is simply no need for it, it has the same sensor as many other phones yet is purposely crippled)
                        2. Lack of camera flash (I could have seen this being of much use on a sporty phone)
                        3. No UMTS (the ability just to run 3G USIMs would have been nice even if the 3G data transfer wasn't there, I have a few 3G sims and if it happened to be my primary phone that is what I would want).
                        4. MicroSD card slot - microSD is crap and overpriced, why not stick with the marginally bigger and cheaper miniSD which has been used on other Nokias? The constant changing of card slots is a worthless nuisance.

Definitely looking out for this phone now that it's out though.

Nokia (or any mobile phone producer) never produce a perfect phone. they keep producing phones somewhat... incomplete.
Ex: bluetooth and insufficient resolution of camera in 5140,
not durable 40 series (no resistance to shocks except 5140),
its really hard to hear somebody talking at 5210 ( also low stand by time and really hard keypad at 5210) etc..

But With 5500,almost everything is perfect, EXCEPT, "the only thing deficient"; the design, its look I mean... Ok i am sure that its really comfortable to hold with bean shape design, but Nokia is able to do better I guess...
And would it be too much to ask for a compass.
It would be very useful when u r trecking...

Glad to see Nokia getting back to what they do best - providing essential handsets for a certain market. This phone should be superb, and if it's anywhere near as resilient as the old 5100/5140 it'll be essential for anyone working or playing outdoors.
