Sony Xperia Z preview: First look

13 February 2013
Failing to react to market tendencies has been an Achilles' heel of sorts for Sony in the past. Joining the dual-core and to quad-core parties late over the past two years has caused the once mighty smartphone maker to slide down in ranks and came dangerously close to the role of an also-run...

    Anonymous, 14 Feb 2013Why didn't you guys test the screen at 50% brightness? I as... moreObviously you never had a Sony or Sony Ericsson. You cannot disable auto brightness on Xperia models with ambinet light sensor, you can adjust but the brightness will still vary. Maybe that sounds bad but no need to worry, in most cases it does find the best brightness for you, they obviously use a very well tuned algorithm to set the brightness based on ambient light. Sonys autobrightness is fast and accurate in most cases, not at all ridiculous like on my Note 2.

      Everyone's like is different. Personally I like saturated screen, photos. Looks more nicer compare to washout colour screen.

      Even HTC butterfly also use LCD can beat this Sony flagship screen quality.

According to most review s3 have better contrast ratio. But in actual my Xperia p's display is much better. Wanna see it? Go to stores. Those contrast ratio numbers says nothing. You can't even tell in actual use what is the contrast ratio of a phone has, what will matter is what are you looking at.

                  I just cant understand why people want wide viewing angles do they want everything they are doing to show to the people in public transport??! This feature suits only laptop, tablets etc not certainly the Smartphone..

                    I absolutely loved this phone when i first saw it... But even with it's ultra sharp display all reviews I have read so far say that the viewing angels and the colours are not great. If it wasn't for that i would replace my S2 without even waiting for s4 or new HTC.. Now i will wait and see what other flagships will offer and then make up my mind.

                        shamnir, 14 Feb 2013Looks good so far. The only thing make me worried is that... moreIt's a non-removable but can still be replaced. Say, you've used the Xperia Z for a year or two and you've noticed the battery performance degraded, you can go to Sony store and let them replace it but I think its not free. Its like buying a new battery but you cant use your previous battery though.

                        Non-removable = Non-user replaceable
                        Removable = User replaceable
                        *User means You (Owner)
                        ;-)

                          Every other phone is horribly oversaturated. Sony has the colors exactly as they should be (atleast on the Xperia V). For example, the GalaxySIII is about 30% more saturated than it should be. If you get used to that, then normal colors will look "undersaturated". The Sony screen is one of the better ones out there.

                              The display test is very dissapointing for this phone, it is very important for sony to show off i dont understand if this test will be on final phones too then its a joke really.. poor contrast and colors on a 5inch phone isnt really attracting :(

                                        Oh yeah, and the thing about still pictures taken while capturing video being limited to 1MP: I *think* that's only the case if HDR is switched on for the video capture; non-HDR video means the still picture resolution goes up to a much higher number; could GSM Arena confirm that?
