BlackBerry Z10 review: Swipe clean

15 February 2013
The BlackBerry Z10 heralds the rebirth of a fallen leader in the smartphone market. It’s a clean break from the past with a big touchscreen and novel OS, but the same business mentality that made it the favorite of office dwellers around the world...

AnonD-58837, 16 Feb 2013Review itself is well done as always, but I do wonder why d... moreI don't get it why GSMArena don't make low-light tests too, seriously, I couldn't care any less for daylight performance of most cameraphones since most people use them in much worse lightning conditions... But to be honest, it's pretty hard to make a consistent and fair low-light test.

Good review GSMArena. I've been looking forward to it.

Been waiting to seeing the OS in action outside of press events. Interesting... I know I would have fun with it, but for the average consumer it seems far too complicated. They've missed the simplicity and 'ease of use' factor that got everyone and their dog using iOS and smartphones initially. Microsoft with WP8 have found that simplicity in a new package, while Android is already geared towards a more advanced and/or heavy user.

The design of the phone is boring, but sleek. Like iPhone 5 meets iPhone 3G. The uncovered ports are a glaring oversight, but it is convenient. White and black options scream iPhone again. How bout silver or aluminium unibody already? Something else.

It's a mad hybrid phone, borrowing some of the best elements from every manufacturer out there (OS/Design/Extras), yet not quite knocking it out of the park.

An interesting year ahead for phone manufacturers . Too hard to call! Who will rise and who will fall, forever!!!

So you have less main disadvantages than the Lumia 620? What a joke!

The hardware is not that durable at all. Teardowns of the Z10 show that it is built quite cheaply, and Blackberry actually has a poor reputation for quality and reliability over the last several years.

Also the phone no longer supports Outlook syncing, it no longer offers encryption for regular customers and no longer offers data compression for regular customers as well.

I suggest BB is a little ahead of the market at the moment, strange to say, and that gesture based devices are the way of the future. Frankly I am fully prepared to undergo this so called steep learning curve as I am totally bored with my Note not living up to expectations. In this case Blackberry has excelled itself, and has shown the way forward in a dull and boring market. It is better than the competition in my opinion. Lets hope they can build on this. Well Done!

One thing I've found myself always relying on in GSMArena reviews is the audio quality test, and I'm potentially relieved in knowing the Z10 is pretty good in that regard. I'll consider this device.

Review itself is well done as always, but I do wonder why didn't you test the camera more comprehensively? No mention (or test) of its lowlight shooting ability (which according to some other reviews is 5 years behind the competition), with or without the flash? In my experience almost all the 8mp phonecameras do a decent job when it comes to daylight photography, but the real differences come to light (pun intended) in dark environments which are the most common time to snap some pictures with a smartphone(nighttime, clubs, at home etc.)

I do wonder why such a big part of camera performance was left without a mention and still the camera was said to be on par with iPhone and SGS III...

The Phone is in my hands and it has become Love of my life and its keep growing every day. Its a beauty. Just ignore negative comments most of those are based on jealousy as people dont want to make a change or trying to prove their device better as they have spent money on it, dont decide untill you actually experience the device by yourself. For me, great experience, very intuitive, refreshing and interesting user interface, easy like piece of cake, dont know why some people cant get it that even a 5 years old can figureout and understand. Plenty of tools and features that makes your business easy and smooth. OS is pretty intelligent and it adapts to your life style and learns the way you use your phone. Good Job BB.

WP8 is for old people with eye-problems that need big boring "tiles"!
Add a tpu-case to S3 and it will be colourful and durable, and you can easily completly change the user interface...! Xperia Z have all the specs anyone will ever need, but S4-specs will be even better...
Z10 browser does not even have text reflow, and that is not ok today!

                                        the "usual nine-to-five"
the usual is the SG3.. the most boring phone on the planet. its now to a point where its cooler to have a 3 year old symbian phone than an SG3 or an iphone.

fact is.. its all about the newest upcoming OS's... WP8, Ubuntu, Jolla Sailfish, Mozilla, Tizen...
