Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on: First look

14 March 2013
The successor of the most popular smartphone from the most widely adopted platform - it doesn't get much bigger than this in the mobile industry. After months of rumor frenzy and high-pitched hype, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S4 at the Unpacked...

There's an obvious feeling of disappointment.

It is not that the phone is no good.

It's simply... more of the same old...
Samsung keeps making new out of old and the source is running dry.

The S3 was a significant and visible step forward, both in terms of hardware and as far as image and design were concerned.

After the "invasion" of s3 "mini" "notes" and all those models, we had the right to expect something innovative, creating and that could have that "WOW!" factor.
This phone is as grey as it looks, the side protection imitating the apple (which is not something to be copied).

Fortunately, I own a Pebble Blue S3 and I am very happy with it.

Why does Samsung's devices always have that feel of lagginess during unlocking the screen? Is it intentional?

It's cool and all, but one question will still remain in the geeks fixed brains, even if they'll come up with an 4K 5" display: "IT IS PEN-TILE?? OR RGB??"

come on guys? are u really that impressed?? or just plain samsung fans ?

          1. The screen is a fail! its not even real 1080p, it has more subpixel than before just to make it 1080! and it gets dimmer than s3 under bright condition, the only good things about it is finnaly Samsung get its 1st phone with the "retina display" quality

Check out the pictures to see how xperiz z acuatly outperform s4 screen performance

          http://i3.sinaimg.cn/IT/cr/2013/0314/544219455.jpg

2.the quality is sucks, plastic is good, but thin plastic is just bad, check out the pictures to see how it cracks, and scratch within the 1st day

          http://i3.sinaimg.cn/IT/cr/2013/0314/340779386.jpg

3.the processor is not a performance king either, its arm15 core run at 1.2ghz, slightly slower than a snapdragon 600. so stop saying its great

4.About all the extra features? every time samsung come out with a new phones packs with build in app that already appear in the store and claims its some new features, then every one go praise about it. i rmb i shut off all those features after two days.

5.The only good thing i can think about its they really improve the camera quality,

while comparing to HTC one, samsung lose big time now.

          HTC ftw!

This will be a decent upgrade for SGS2 owners, but I seriously cannot see any point in a GS3 owner upgrading to this.
It's huge, and more like a Note. The hardware upgrades will only encourage Samsung to fit more bloatware onto the device. The only actual innovations are the eye detection software and air gestures, which are hardly deal breakers. The screen is nice enough, and the camera is too, but for a mobile device is there any point in upping the resolution so much?

If I was looking to buy an Android phone right now, I'd go for the HTC One. It's smaller in the hand and fast enough to cope with Androids next batch of updates.

Sorry Samsung, but you reached your limit with the SGS3. This is uninspiring.

Say hello to daddy of all guys. S4 rules. Really happy. Those making mind about other phones oyster based on the early appearance of device should calm down and wait for the reviews cozy that are gonna be superb (except the very obvious the ibiased phone arena ones ). Cheers for Samsung for their attempts on the technology front. And hey, who says design is not good. May not be the best of all but definitely far from being tagged as ugly. Opinions are subjective though. Superb phone by Samsung. No complaints howsoever.

Samsung registered 210 patent on s4 and now apple start scratching their heads. No more ideas for apple even the flexible screen samsung owns it.

There's no way that GS3 owners should upgrade for this! ;p
Can u imagine if all people who owned galaxy note, note II, s3, and now s4 put them all on the table and look.... they all look the same!! Gosh! What's wrong with u Samsung?

Now I'm no longer proud as a GS3 owner anymore.. I love its good performance but.............. IT HAS NO STYLE AT ALL!! ... and now GS4 just look like its twin brother.. (fiuuh)
Every samsung owner will have the same look of their own devices... Feels like everybody wearing the same white t shirt uniform at work, but only differs on the sizes...

As a professional at work, performance and style would be a better choice.. and also if u want to show off your new expensive and 'cool' phone... GS4 LOSE TO HTC ONE!!

Despite if GS4 has better performance benchmark,
HTC One has the best mix of high performance and style!

What do you guys think? ;p

Octa core is made to save battery power. It's two quad cores. The first quad core is for power (better than Note 2) while the next quad core is for economy when you don't need to much processing speed. Think of it as a Prius that switches between gasoline engine on highways and electric motor in slow traffic.

Giving credence to some opinion by saying DESIGN is a MAIN CRITICISM is nuts. That very design, used across practically Samsung's entire line, took them to NUMBER ONE smartphone. It's like going to McDonald's and saying their Big Mac is awful. The proof of the pudding,so they say, is in the eating. Who would you rather believe, the armchair critics or the actual market who put their money on that design?
