bought a galaxy note 5 phone and this note tab 8.0 and heres the thing, replaced the tab's battery once but its not good either, cheap ebay replacement batt. lil slow compared to 2019 tabs but the Note5 phone is actually better than my 3 month old Pixel 3XL. the 5 year old screen is better and more vibrant, the controls are more intuitive eveything. i might give it back and keep using the Note5

5 megapixel camera, gone from 16 on note 4 to 5 now. How disappointing wanted note 7 bad but why should I have to carry a camera too. My note 3 is better with 8 megs. Samsung needs to wake up, we want a phone to fill all our needs, I have a cheap ass camera with 5 megs, exactly where did Samsung improve?

This is great little device. Coming from an iPad and an 8.9 Galaxy Tab, I was looking for better performance and the legendary S Pen functionality w/ Wacom digitizer. And due to a lucky discount offer, I got this device 10% cheaper than an iPad Mini.
Battery life is sufficiently good, lasting about 7hrs of intense use for me. That would be 2 - 3 days on average use for 2-3hrs, without a single recharge. On Standby, like other good tablets, it lasts for a long long time.
Although it is an extra for me, gaming performance (+ the ability to use the PS3 controller on some titles), is awesome. The benchmarks score it lower than the HTC One X+, which I also have, but my experience gaming is better on the GN8.0.
Getting to the important stuff, the S Pen; this is just unbeatable. Productivity-wise, this product is in its own league. Palm rejection and pressure sensitivity play a great part in this, because input really becomes more natural and drawing, while still digital, feels real. All the styluses for iPads and other Android tablets feel totally useless by comparison. I could never spend more than 20 min. drawing on other tablets, but on the GN8.0, I need to look at the time and stop myself, just like I would with paper and pencil. Sketchbook Pro goes a long way into making this great usability possible, when it comes to drawing.
The processor is fast (by which I mean it feels fast), and videos look great. I have not seen any noticeable lag on this device, but for absolute smoothness, nova launcher works better. I don't feel the need for it on this device though.
Reading and taking notes is good. I can hold this tablet for very long without getting tired (which I could not do with the iPad), although I do keep it on some surface for greater stability and comfort, for example, when taking a sketch.
The size is also great, but when it comes to size, I really can only say that there is no best size for all uses. The GN8 is both portable and usable in size (meaning I never felt it to be too small), so it fits the bill for me.
I think that if someone is interested in doing some creative work and write (with a pencil/pen), instead of type, there is no beating this product-line. It really adds another dimension to the game.
As a pure consumption device, there are other options, like Nexus 7 (new), iPad Mini, or the bigger iPad or Xperia Tablet Z. Samsung will also likely announce their high-end bigger tablet in September.
For those that are into drawing, I believe a bigger tablet would make less sense, due to portability issues. For example, a Note 10.1 on the sofa is ok, but then a Cintiq on the Desktop is much better. This is just my take on it though. Happy shopping!

AnonD-77443, 03 Apr 2013The other downside is the battery... its not that great.
... moreNo, 8 inch is better than 7.7. Also higher resolution than 12800x720 does not make a difference in 8 inches. Finally, whats the story with the bezels? they are perfect to hold it without touching the screen.
Sorry mate but you are wrong in all proposals.

Why is there nothing about the battery?? It may be a WiFi device, but that doesn't mean you guys shouldn't test the battery! I was waiting for the details. I mean the Note 10.1 has a sweet 7000 mAh battery. But this has just 4600 mAh battery! Will that be enough for an entire day of usage? I certainly don't think it will not be as good as Note 10.1 as the Note 8.0 has just ~2.0" smaller screen size but close to half the battery of Note 10.1!

Overall, the Note 8.0 is a very good phone for me. Its size is just right for my myopic eyes when reading sms, ebooks or comic/manga. The images on screen is crisp and clear enough for me. It is also thin and light so carrying it around is not a problem.
I am happy that Samsung has given an option for voice calls: loudspeaker AND receiver/earpiece (for privacy purposes unlike my first Samsung Tab wherein i have to bring my earphones/headset with me at all times). Voice calls coming through either on speaker or earpiece are clear and crisp and seems to block external/background noise.
With the Note 8.0, i can multitask and open 2 apps at the same time or more and not compromise its processor. The S-pen is ergonomically designed and more responsive. Even if my palm touches the screen while i scribble using the S-pen, my note writing was not interrupted.
As for games, i was able to install Play Station games to the Note 8.0 (King of Fighters, etc) and am able to use an actual PS controller via bluetooth. Other kinds of games can be downloaded via google play. There was no lag time during the game too.
When it comes to battery life, this phablet is much better than my old galaxy tab - well, at least, the Note 8.0 can last up to 12hours time from the last charging. At least I dont have to bring a charger at all times. So this is an added bonus for me as I always surf the net, listen to music or read ebooks most of the time.
So overall, this phablet is just right for me. =)

your note 8 has black theme as observed from settings to notif panel. did you install theme? please tell me how... i have note 8 and all is white. white theme tends to drain battery much faster...
