Smartphones vs. laptops: Of mice and... touchscreens

10 May 2013
Greetings GSMArenians and welcome to an interruption in our usual program. No need to change the channel though. It’s still the familiar place and good old us, and no, we haven’t run out of phones to review. But are we likely to run out of laptops? Ludicrous idea...

hi all
just wanted to say that there actually are some company's that provide mini tablets with mobile functionalities like the Magic W3, Viliv tablets and many more. unfortunately there performance is not that outstanding like regular laptops but within time having a smartphone with one mobile OS and one desktop OS should make all other devices obsolete. on a side note I can't wait to buy the windows 8 phablet by nokia and the surface windows 8 pro from Microsoft, whenever their available.

Good point taken by gsm arena. But i will wait for the day when i can see all smartphones benchmark, tablets benchmark and devices battery performance separately on this website. All brands under one head, it would help consumers to find their products stand and purchase better if in state of confusion ..That would help GSMarena.Try make it happen..

I would said that Intel Company is finished once the new ARM cores will hit the market this year or next year that supposedly will offer 3x the performance of current A15 cores or 5x less power at the current level of A15 performance. Efficiency is all about performance per watt so if ARM can bring the same level of performance with 1 Watt CPU that Intel brings with a ludicrous 100 Watts CPU then ARM is the undoubtedly winner and Intel will follow Nokia towards bankruptcy in less than 2 or 3 years.

So I guess the OS maker that can adapt and put a full desktop OS on a phone wins in the end :)

Imagine docking your phone and instantly having your PC with you. Microsoft really moved in the right direction.

Anonymous, 10 May 2013Ugh tablets..still no purpose in this worldSeriously? They are just bigger phones. They are more enjoyable for web browsing, watching videos, playing games, practically anything you enjoy on your phone is more enjoyable on a tablet.

Plus, in many work-related scenarios a tablet makes much, much more sense than a phone or a laptop. Like in a hospital.

Smart phones are pocket sized laptops .so I don't need a laptop.

And finally this day came. We are comparing smartphone with a laptop. And it was obvious. Even I guess in the next few years laptop will remain just a tool for flashing smartphones. At least I do that honestly.

I can't understand why anyone would chose a smartphone over a laptop and vice-versa...
