yeah, 27 Jun 2013not so long ago, Nokia's investors notified the CEO to reth... moreElop is taking a huge risk without a backup plan. If he's right, everyone's happy and he looks like a hero. If wrong, he's a donkey and the company is done as we know it.
I've read articles where a couple Micro$haft execs have been quoted as saying they expect to own Nokia in a couple years. Well, now you know why Elop has no Plan B. If Nokia is acquired by Micro$haft, Elop will get a big fat payday to either step down or to continue with the company. Either way, there's no downside for him financially (although professionally he's done outside Micro$shaft).
If Nokia management were smart (and I know there are some smart people still working there), they'd gear up one of next year's Lumia phones with both WP8 and Asha OS...then let the worldwide market and sales figures tell Nokia which direction it should go with it's OS platform.
Their current strategy is just plain nutty. Giving low end phones features like SD cards, removable batteries and file system navigation, then forcing people to adjust to a new OS and available features and applications when the time comes that they can afford a better phone like the Lumia.

Me, as a daily Android user (Nexus 4), I would gladly take this phone from Nokia as a 2nd or backup phone and even as a prime phone for use between the time that it takes me to sell and buy my main phone (which takes 2 weeks, every 6 months or so). It's an amazing little device, beautifully crafted. I would gladly use a Lumia phone if it wasn't for Windows. I love Nokia quality and attention to detail. And the lovely/unique colors.

Why not using Symbian Belle? You abandoned that and make a new similar UI but in a limited OS and apps!

I've always thought Nokia built very good phones. If Asha was on the lumina line I'd buy one. With any Microsoft Os, no way.

I find the UI looks more presentable than Windows Phone stupid tile-based Metro.

The interface is really easy to use. Plus you wont have to strain that hardware back key too much since swipe gestures are used to navigate and close apps most of the time. Having previously owned an N9, i must say that this is more interesting than the lumia line up.

"Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is in the hot seat with investors and took fire at today's meeting from impatient shareholders who are waiting for the company's fortunes to turn around. Elop announced Nokia's plans to abandon Symbian, which he referred to as a burning platform, in February 2011. Elop decided then that Nokia would use Microsoft's Windows Phone platform for its smartphones moving forward. At the time, he predicted that the turn-around would take two years. That time has come and gone, and Nokia's share of the smartphone market is still grim. "You're a nice guy, and the leadership team is doing its best, but clearly, it's not enough," said shareholder Hannu Virtanen to Elop. "Are you aware that results are what matter? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Please switch to another road." Elop defended his decision, citing recent traction with its Lumia Windows phones, but also admitted that there's no Plan B. "We make adjustments as we go," said Elop. "But it's very clear to us that in today's war of ecosystems, we've made a very clear decision to focus on Windows Phone with our Lumia product line. And it is with that that we will compete with competitors like Samsung and Android." Nokia has planned a press conference for May 14, during which it is expected to announce new Lumia smartphones. "

"The Asha 501 might be one of the last representatives of a dying breed and is given the task to buy more time for the WP strategy to work out, rather than lay foundations for a lineup that is aiming to dominate the market one day."
Don't be surprised if the WP strategy doesn't work out and the Asha OS does eventually take the lead for Nokia.
Ask yourself, if the hardware specs and size of this phone was on par with the Lumina phones, which would you choose? Removable battery, SD card slot and a file manager - I'd go for the Asha 501 without a second thought.
If this Asha 501 turns out to be a hit it should make Nokia pause to re-think it's WP strategy (if CEO Stephen Elop remember's he works for Nokia, not Microsoft that is).
