Nokia Asha 501 review: The candy store kid

05 August 2013
A nice little phone that looks fresh both on the inside and outside. That’s what we took from our first encounter with the Nokia Asha 501 and we do hope we managed to get that point across. You know, with phones that go a dime a dozen, you always risk...

i would like to go for the asha 501 as soon as it supports Whatsapp. Hey guys common nw it's such a waste without whatsapp. I hope that happens soon. Plz

Cool phone, Nokia made a major step with the Asha OS.

I think this is a great feature/basic phone.. I agree that it's a little overpriced for its specs but this is still a Nokia phone. I think Nokia makes better phones than Samsung. Sure, they didn't adapt to the whole Android thing but I still think their basic phones are better when it comes to build, battery life and even screen quality.

I don't get the enthusiasm here ..m On what should be the Asha flagship there's no 3g ' wifi antenna is weak , the design , although cute is rather cartoonish ! Apart from Fastlane , which is both cool and useful , there's little here that my Asha 311 can't do just as well , or better , considering it has both 3g and a better design IMHO. . Nor let's forget that the " new " Asha platform is simply s40 with a few Meego bits thrown in ! That said , I'm glad to see them , but I'll be sticking to my Asha 311 as a BU device ...

I just got one, and the only bad thing i can say about it is that Wi-Fi antenna is not very powerful. Appart from that, i can only say good things about this phone. Sure... it needs whatsapp and more software options.

I would vote Meego as Nokia's main OS, but Asha... moreI think none of you have used Meego, you only like Meego because you are loyal to Nokia. I had an N9 and used it for many months, it was immature, experimental at best, and was nothing compared to Maemo5.

Another problem was the low quality of N9, a lot of them are already broken, the cellular signal degrades. For my N9 it took less than a year before it had zero signal. Not easy to repair also, usually need new mother board, not worth it.

3G will make this fon expensive. On the other hand 3G is expensive for many peoples in asia. Please remember that Asha series are targeted to budjet buyers. You can buy lumia 520 if you want 3G.
