Roku has announced five new media streaming devices, which will be available alongside the Roku Streaming Stick that was launched back in April.

The first two are the Roku Express and Roku Express+. These are compact little devices that connect to your TV over an HDMI cable (included) and support 1080p playback. You also get an IR remote, and a removable adhesive strip for mounting them to the TV. The Express+ also has composite output for older televisions and comes with the necessary cables. The Roku Express is priced at $29.99 and the Roku Express+ at $39.99.

Next are the Roku Premiere and Roku Premiere+. Both offer 4K video output up to 60fps, quad-core processor, and dual band 802.11ac MIMO Wi-Fi. The Roku Premiere+ also includes support for HDR, Bluetooth remote with headphone jack, microSD, and Ethernet port for wired connectivity. The Roku Premiere is priced at $79.99 and the Roku Premiere+ at $99.99.

Lastly, there is the Roku Ultra. It includes everything that the Roku Premiere+ has and also Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus decoding, optical audio out, USB drive support, and a lost remote finder feature. The Roku Ultra is priced at $129.99.

All models are powered by the Roku OS and feature access to 3500+ streaming channels and a homescreen search that works across 100+ channels.

The new devices will be available for pre-order beginning today from Roku.com, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon and other retailers, and are expected to be in stores beginning on October 9. Roku Express+ will be available exclusively at Walmart.

I agree with you, no 4k TV therefore no need to upgrade as both accomplish practically the same thing.

Yeah, that'd be a bit dumb.
