Rugged Casio Pro Trek Smart WSD-F30 with Wear OS becomes official

Vlad, 29 August 2018

At IFA Casio has unveiled its third-generation smartwatch, running Wear OS by Google. The Pro Trek Smart WSD-F30 is the successor to the WSD-F20 launched last year.

Like its predecessor, it has MIL-STD-810G compliance for durability and ruggedness, and 50m water resistance. It has a unique 1.2-inch dual-layer display, with a 390x390 OLED panel and a monochrome LCD on top. The black and white display can be used to show the time, atmospheric pressure / altitude and compass bearing.

You can also switch to Multi Timepiece Mode, during which only time data will be shown in monochrome, with smartphone communication and the color display being turned off for maximum battery life, which is up to one month. In normal use, the most you can expect is 1.5 days.

In Extend Mode, the watch should last for up to three days on a charge. This mode enables use of offline color maps and GPS, with time and measurement data being shown continuously on the monochrome display, and the color map can be brought up with a push of a button. Extend Mode also switches the OS to an energy-saving standby mode on a user-selectable schedule.

The F30 is 3.9mm narrower and 0.4mm thinner than the F20, and the watchband has been made more flexible. The smartwatch will become available in late January 2019 for $549 in black, blue, and orange.
