Samsung announces S5260 Star II with Wi-Fi, we have live photos

18 January, 2011

Another star is born - the Samsung S5260 Star II, which just went official, is looking to succeed the best-selling S5230 Star. TouchWiz 3.0, Wi-Fi connectivity and deep social networking integration certainly give the young star a boost but those are big shoes to fill.

The Samsung S5260 Star II upgrades some of the original's features - a capacitive display instead of resistive, Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity and a standard microUSB port. Bluetooth 3.0 is also on board.

Still, the screen is a 3" WQVGA (240x400) screen, the camera is a 3MP fixed-focus unit with no flash and there's no 3G connectivity, the same specs as the original Star. And there is that S5230W Star Wi-Fi, of course.

The software has received a major update for an improved user experience on the S5260 Star II. The TouchWiz UI has been bumped to v3.0, the same version as the one used in Bada OS and also Samsung's droids. Too bad, the Start II is not a smartphone.

The Samsung S5260 Star II also boasts extensive social networking skills - phonebook features SNS integration and there are Facebook and Twitter apps preinstalled. IM support covers Facebook chat, Yahoo Messenger, Gtalk and AIM.

SNS aside, the Star II aims to impress music fans too - 3.5mm audio jack, DNSe support, music recognition and a microSD card slot for cards up to 16GB.

Aside from the official product shots, we also have some live photos of the white Samsung S5260 Star II to share.

The Samsung S5260 Star II will launch this February in Germany, with other European countries, CIS, South America, India and the Middle East to follow. Available in black and white, the Samsung expects the Star II to match the success of the original (which has over 30 million sales).
