Reply to Dave:

Thanks buddy for such a polite reply!
I begin with declaring any potential conflict of interest (should have done that in my earlier post itself)
Conflict of interest: None declared
Neither me, my relatives or my close friends are employed with, or affiliated with any mobile phone company. (A pity really, could have done with some insider information)

A point to be emphasized.. I have sought to degrade the user experience offered by the particular model B210 made by Samsung. How does that equate to downgrading Samsung phones in entirety?
Exaggeration is the one of the basic virtues tought to all budding advertisers.. Makes me wonder if you are in the advertising field! :-)
I have not used any other Samsung mobile set ever, so cannot comment on the brand at all.
In fact, Samsung honcho says they aim to be second best mobile brand in India. Point to be noted.. even they are aiming to be second best only! To be the largest selling brand (here in India), they would need to be better, not just equal to Nokia.

Perplexed by your suggestion. Why should i get feedback from other Samsung users, now that i have already committed the mistake of buying this particular model? I have used it, and shared my experience of using it and the nags i faced. Its for the company guys to be gathering consumer feedback.

Thanks for second suggestion. Unfortunately, they have not yet started the concept of tutorial classes for teaching people how to learn to operate "good featured" phones {Quotes intended. I do not intend the readers to carry the impression that i am calling this piece a 'good featured phone'!} So till the time coaching is provided, we technically challenged people usually either discover a feature in a phone by trial and error fiddling with it, or look to the nicely folded glossy 'User maual' that usually accompanies new marvels of technology. And in case a User Manual that is comprehensive enough to show via a series of diagrams, how a CALL IS TO BE MADE using a phone (First press this.. then press digits.. then press this... !!) does not show 'Reminders' as a feature, we assume its absence from the technopot we just bought.

"Come out from Nokia's basic phone."
I just did.. Still repenting it!

"Go to "Calendar" and select "Create"...and set your event or memo."
I hope you are talking of the same model my review was about. The only options i find in the Calendar view are "1-Go to date, 2-Starting day (of a week), 3-Festivals (specific to India)". There is no 'create' option.

"For T9 dictionary, press * while typing. T9 dictionary will be set permanently."
No.. T9 is not set permanently. It starts with whatever mode was last active while typing the last message.

"In inserting symbols, you have not changed the settings. Do it and the phone won't ask any questions. :)"
In inserting symbols, i could not find any settings! Tell me where exactly the magic switch is, and i shall smile back!

"Com'on...in typing message, you don’t need to format it properly."
Ah, the murderers of the English language. How i despise thee.. {Note the capitalization used in the sentence} :-)

"it means Samsung have done the right thing, as one needs "123" more than formal "Abc" or "ABC"."
Wow. Were you the guy who did the market research for them on deciding this? No seriously.. What do other people find handy.. '123' as first change or 'Abc' as first change?

"Anyhow....you enjoy your bulky Nokia, with no "Privacy Setting" on different folders. :)"
To be honest with you, i AM actually missing the sturdy feel of the Nokia set. It was reassuring really. So many times did i drop the sets i had, sat over them, and even sometimes slept right over them (not deliberately!)
Are you really talking about this phone model only? The privacy setting for individual folders is supposed to be in higher range models, no? Or is it such a top secret feature that even the User manual (praise be to that glossy sheet) omits it..?

By the way i forgot to discuss.. 'Selective recall' or 'selective highlighting' is another favored tool of true blue advertisers {Thats how they make us believe that taking your loved ones to McDonald's, and getting your kids used to the taste of the junk as early as possible in life, is a true reflection of how caring you are!!} You seem to have carefully forgotten the other several points i had discussed.

    Reply to Adiman:

Good job Adiman!! You’ve tried your level best to downgrade Samsung phones. :)

I suggest you one thing that kindly get feedback of Samsung's users too...that how much they are used to of and comfortable with all message settings in Samsung phones. :D

Few points to be discussed here. 1st of all, the "Reminders" are available. All you have to do is to learn to use good featured phones. Come out from Nokia's basic phone. Go to "Calendar" and select "Create"...and set your event or memo. :

For T9 dictionary, press * while typing. T9 dictionary will be set permanently.

In inserting symbols, you have not changed the settings. Do it and the phone won't ask any questions. :)

Com'on...in typing message, you don’t need to format it properly. Why do u want to use capital letters so often? It’s not an official letter or email. :p The concept of sms is to communicate smoothly & casually. So if "123" option is before "Abc" or "ABC", it means Samsung have done the right thing, as one needs "123" more than formal "Abc" or "ABC".

Anyhow....you enjoy your bulky Nokia, with no "Privacy Setting" on different folders. :)

Very rarely do i take extreme views of anything, but this is an absurdly ridiculous creation. I am feeling frustrated at having chosen this one over a Nokia phone. There are several small niggles, that taken together add up to a very irritating user experience. They also convey a lack of company research into basic consumer requirements from a phone.

        - The FM is good, but there is no one button to shift between preset channels. Pressing left or right in the navigation main key shifts the frequency by 0.1 MHz.. why would i want to scan through the entire FM frequency range! To shift between channels, you need to keep the left or right key pressed for long.
A terrible waste of default key press action.

-The FM is not operable through the button present on the headset provided along with the phone. With the FM playing, the headset button does NOTHING, nothing at all. If you need to change channels, you need to take out the phone from your pocket, deactivate the keypad lock (which most people usually use), and then use the keypad to change channels. Glaring lack of accessibility of features.

        - The nice long elliptical button on the headset, has no feature other than to call the last dialled number (it cant even be used to move through contact list) and to recieve/end a call)

        - In messages menu, the inbox is buried inside submenus.. you need to press thrice to access inside your sms inbox

-In typing a message, there is no option of putting T9 dictionary permanently on. You need to click click click to make it on everytime you start typing a message.

        - Another small point, but makes you so irritated because of the sheer lack of thoughtfulness shown. The '*' key is designated for shifting between 'abc' '123' 'Abc' 'ABC' text mode. But on first click of the * key, the mode changes to '123' rather than 'Abc'. This may seem a small thing, but please calculate that in normal SMS usage how many times do you need to insert a number, and how many times do you need to change to a capital letter.. What justified putting number mode as first action..

        - They took care to make even inserting symbols a painful task. The Symbols panel is innovatively laid out, and you can get any symbol in maximum two clicks, but after you select a symbol, EVERYTIME you have to press the topleft key to 'ok' and insert it. "Kya aap confident hain?" (Are you confident of your answer?)
"Kya aap yahi symbol insert karna chahte hain?" (You wish to insert this symbol only?)
"Aapke chosen symbol ko lock kardein insert karne ke liye?" (Should we lock your selected symbol?).. comeon man, its not a question of millions, just inserting symbols!!

        - The delivery reports come as separate messages. I dont know about other phones, but at least the nokia phones i had so far, had 'delivered' status indicated by a discrete change in icon against the SMS in the 'Sent' folder.

        - A small rant, but the sent messages are not saved by default. You have to choose to do it everytime.

        - There is no 'Reminders' feature in the phone. I found it such a handy feature really.

        - Against all these deficiencies, they have provided the 'privilege' of getting to display two clock times on screen at a time, meaning e.g. you can see your current time and another city's time simultaneously. No nitpicking the feature, but how many of non-business users will really be needing this feature, in whats meant to be a basic color-screen phone really.

Phew, a long mail.. Will add to it as and when required. I am ready to admit any feature which i may have missed/ incorrectly stated about, if pointed out.

The users so far have been very generous in giving the phone 7.2 overall. No mistakes, phone itself is nice, but the user experience of operating it is a mighty bad one.

Take solace from one fact at least in the entire bitter experience. This was my first non Nokia phone in six years of being a cellphone user. Reinforces the belief "look everywhere, see everything.. and then go buy a Nokia"!
From now on its Nokia only.

One of the best features in Samsung sets is the "privacy" setting. I couldn't find this feature (built-in) in Nokia, S.E and/or LG.
This feature enables me to set password on my messages, videos, pictures etc. Isn't it great? :D

Even privacy feature is available in Samsung's basic phone like this B210.
