The last time I bought a cellphone was when I lost my Nokia 7110. It was about four years ago. I got a Siemens ME45. It was one of the top phones of its time. Recently, it has been showing its age and the battery is draining much too quick.
Looks like it's time to finally buy a new one. I searched the net and the local stores in Cebu and I kinda liked what I was seeing in Motorola V3 (Motorazr). I was also liking Nokia 6260. Then I happened to meet one of my friends at a store and they looked at Samsung's new phone, the D500. They mentioned that it's voted the best phone of the year. Hmmm... so I looked it up.
And before I knew it, I got one! :-)
It's a really cool phone! I very much like it. The features and specs are already quite good but still I have some wish list for some of its functionality (a firmware update will do).
Before that, let me just say that I got mine for P20,000.00 flat! Well, that's a hefty price for a phone but that's already a bargain considering that some are selling it for as much as P26,300.00. It's already open-line and with 1-year warranty.
It's a pity though that due to the vanity of most of us, phones are getting more and more expensive.
Anyway, here's my wish list for a firmware update of the D500:
1. On top of the English locale (and some other built-in support for other locales), it should have the option to change the locale to Chinese (I sometimes text in Chinese).
2. Be able to insert newline character (on an SMS message or notes).
3. Option to prolong IR activation.
4. Be able to insert text or numbers from the contact list.
5. Option to select the display of the contact list either from the phone only, SIM only or both.
6. Be able to organize the text messages in folders (or maybe at least an archives folder will do).
7. Option to secure certain folders instead of just their categories.
8. Be able to use downloaded sounds or music as message tones.

lora, i've seen the d415 at a tmobile store. if i am not mistaken its the same dimension. it is really small, compact. probably the size of a credit card when the phone is closed, although it is not as wide. another good thing about it is that it doesnt have an antenna.

First of all , It's quite cute and suited for both man and woman . I like it very much . but i haven't used it yet . so i don't know much more about it . but this phone offered nearly almost all the functions , compare with other phones . But the weak is , In Myanmar , the price of this phone is higher than E800 though the actual price is not like that . What's wrong with that ? :( I'd buy if they reduced price ! absolutely!

guys u have to set up ur wap/gprs settings b4 u can receive any content such as ringtones. U can get the settings from ur service provider or do a search on google. I had to find out these settings myself becoz my service provider claimed they can't/don't have the settings for this phone.

I've had this phone for almost a month now and I think it is great but only some minor problems. Beacuse I use to and actually still do hav a nokia the space when typing a txt message is 0 but on the d500 it is the #, which sometimes messes ur txt up when u forget n ur tryin to type real quick. (also the # button is so close to the edge ur thumb has to cramp up to press it (not comfortable)) Also does anyone find that the ringtones are not very loud when u use an mp3 file as the ringtone. Other minor things are that it is not as customisable as a nokia. ie, cant change the volume of the warning tones/button tones and in txt using t9 when u move away frm the word u cannot highlight it again to change it (u have to delete the word n type again) But I still love this phone. It is sleek!
