Isn't it annoying that you can't customise the sms tone on this otherwise BRILLIANT phone?!

I've just e-mailed Samsung asking them to sort it out, but probably won't get anywhere, so everyone, join me in nagging them to sort out this irritation...

The only other phones with 353 x 288 are the E720 and the E530 so far! This is a good phone, but does anyone know if we are actually getting the D600e. In the UK we have loads of D600's about but orange are advertising the D600e, is it definitely the edge technology one?

      to SE supporter:

Yes, indeed I know how to use it (since i own one). My focus here is that the built quality and durability deficiency is the only drawback of the W800i.

Damn, should be out by next week, the D600. I already bought a 512 mb transflash memory card for my anticipation. Although a lot of people claim that micro-sd's are unpopular and expensive, but think about it, it's half the size of SIM card and it seems pretty tangible.

Paul, I totally agree with you.

I'm a W800i user, I've been using it for past 3 months. I started to notice that my connector jack WIGGLES causing it to loose sound qualities of MP3's, consequently turning the stereo sound to -> mono quality. And the fact that video quality is CRAPPY I don't even use it, not a tinge of it. There's no point of video for this phone, they should've dropped it out.

Secondly, MPEG4 PLAYBACKS! This is big concern! I use Imtoo & Mpegable video converters, I usually trim the original clips from AVI & MPEG formats to 176x144 and 144 kbps and 25p/s mpeg4 formats. When I play it in my phone, the first few seconds seems smooth, then suddenly it lags and the audio gets discorded. If i play it fullscreen (despite the fact W800i is embarked with 176x220, the clip converted to fit its remote screen is virtually impossible) the resolution is CRAPPY.

W800i, call/voice clarity sucks except when you use the standard headsets using the microphone receptor located next to 3.5mm jack.

In addition, viewing jpeg and gif files through phone is a menace. It friggin' lags when you open the file and play it back.

Finally, after frequent use of camera (I really have no loathes toward it) I found it difficult to snap pictures in right time. When I press the shutter half way down, it doesn't even focus. I should press atleast 2/3 down it order to get it focused, then when I press the shutter button all the way down, the rectangular parameter suddenly disappears, then appears again and snaps picture no even when the appartur is fully focused.

I'm planning to trade-in my W800i to get a D600. Hopefully though, maybe few weeks later.

If your looking for more of an MP3 player out of a phone... choose the W800i, but if your looking for class, superb video and camera quality, slidephone style, and an mp3 player in one... i'd most definately recommend the D600. The D600 in my own words is probably the best phone ive ever had! And for all those who think the D500 looks/is great, think again! The D600 is ten times better. My opinion:
The Camera: Exremeley good in day light, not so good in dark conditions.
The Video: The video is superb in daylight, and ok in dark conditions. (whereas the Sony Ericsson W800i's video is probably the owrst ive seen in a phone of its class, its a heap of C***P.
The Flash, its good, although it doesnt make that much of a difference.(also can be used simply as a torch)
Bluetooth: Its jsut Bluetooth, plain and simple file sharing and all the other things you can do with it.
The Screen: Very bright, displays whatever really clearly, even though it has the same amount of colours as the d500, it looks alot better. (on the d500 you can see really little squares, the d600... its just clear, no little squares!)
I found the TV out cable useful, its as simple as plug and play, no need to set anything up, just switch the TV to the channel you play your videos thru. (handy if you want to show a slideshow of pictures to your family or friends.) You can also play MP3's from your phone thru the telly with your cable attatched!
The MP3 player... its good, it just plays your mp3's simple as! You can also change the equaliser, by this i mean like rock, pop, dance mode etc, also the background animation, and whether you want your mp3 to play as if its echoing slightly (bit pointless)
The stereo speakers: probably the best quality of sound i have heard from mobile phone speakers, it has two of course. Although it doesnt play really loud, although loud enough for my likeing.
I dont like the fact that if you want to store your sent messages, you have to go thru the option menu when you finish writing your text to choose whether to save it in 'sent items' or not. Pretty annoying, as you cannot make it do it automatically. The WAP's faster than most phones ive been on. Who really cares what the buttons sound like, they just click as any normal phone would? isnt that what theyre for... to click?
The PC suite... its just a PC suite, its simple to use too. The cabel comes in the box, so no need to faff around trying to buy one. The downside about the PC suite is that is takes a bit of time to transfer an mp3 over to your phone, and when you want to download pictures from your PC to your phone to use as a background, the ones ive used have shrunk and center itself in the screen with a white surround.
If anyone wants to know where you can buy a TRANSFLASH MEMORY CARD from, i'd advise you to buy one from ebay... thats where mine came from. (VERY CHEAP TOO)I actually bought it from a seller.. who's items for sale can be found here:
                http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZcgbpartnersQQhtZ-1

^^Copy and paste that webaddres into your web browser^^

My 128mb memory card only cost me £12.99 from this seller.. and delivery was FREE...

Obviously other capaccity's are available like 256mb and 512mb, these can also be found on ebay by typing in 'transflash memorycard'.
The memory card itself, its about as small as your small finger nail! its quite remarkable!

Hope this has answered most questions for people... the D600 is a remarkable phone, yet soo cheap on ebay compared to the shops (Although I purchased mine on contract from 02 online)... just make sure the person your buying it off on ebay has good feedback comments, and you should be fine! ... d600's 352x288 video is the same as a typical download off the internet, is it the same quality? Is that the highest quality of any camera phone? Is the next highest 176x144 or is there anything in between? If some 1.3 megapixel camera phones have 352x288, why do some 2mp phones like w800i only have 176x144 video? What other 2 megapixel camera phones have 352x288?

How good are the stereo speakers on d600, are they adequate for listening to music? Can stereo speakers be used to listen to radio if we buy a separate stereo handsfree with radio built into it? Are the controls good enough to play video games on d600, or is w800i's joystick much better?

Its TV out.. not TV in..

TV out means you can output to the tv, like videos, powerpoint, pdf, etc.

Transflash is cheap but max right now is 512. If your in america you can buy a 256 transflash in bestbuy or fry's electronics store. Its smaller than a dime.

man 300 GBP with contract??? thats expensive. You can get sim free at that price!

what does TV output mean?? Can we watch over the air TV channels like NBC or UPN on the phone with the stereo speakers?? That would be even better than FM radio which can be bought separately integrated into a new handsfree headphone.

also, I've only seen 64mb or 256mb transflash cards, aren't those micro SD cards brand new tech that is very expensive, small memory capacity and relatively unavailable?? Isn't that a huge drawback to d600, what kind of card comes with the phone, anything??

yes it can be viewed full screen, but the quality is not as great when viewing on the tv due to the bigger screen, still good quality sound through the tv when playin mp3s and voice recordings

I thought w800i was the top dog, but samsung d600 at same size takes video that is twice as tall and wide (4x as good?), has a bigger screen, stereo speakers compared to w800's mono, looks better in black compared to w800s orange, and gets better quadband 850, 900, 1800, 1900 reception compared to w800's triband.

Advantages of w800i are price and availability, autofocus which takes better closeup pictures, integrated FM radio, phone-off "flight mode" for mp3 player (and camera??), longer talk and standby time, and better included headphone and 512mb memory card. However, d600 users can buy cheap handsfree headphones with FM radio integrated in. Question, where can we buy d600 compatible transflash "micro SD" memory cards and how expensive are they??

I've had the phone now for almost a week so here's the pros and cons in as simple as form as I can write.

                                      PROS;
                                      1) It looks hot as. Very stylish.
                                      2) The MP3 quality is.. well quality.
                                      3) You can assign video clips to contacts.
                                      4) The screen quality and picture clarity.
                                      5) The High memory capacity.

                                      CONS;
                                      1) The general feel of the buttons is 'clicky' and they make the phone feel a bit cheap.
                                      2) The video capture and play back is Sh@*.. the window is like a third of the screen! And you can't do anything about it.
                                      3) You can't create any new files for photo’s to organise them like you can on the Samsung Z500 (by the way. Z500, is a great little phone. Only thing it misses is a flash.)
                                      4) No Infer-red. (Admittedly it has bluetooth, but why leave IR out on such a high spec phone? It's handy for transferring all contact details.)
                                      5) AND PROBABLY THE MOST ANNOYING OF ALL.. It takes far to many buttons to send a text back. The phone doesn't auto save sent items, so you specifically have to remember to press.. Reply > Options > Save and Send > Enter > Send. It might sound minor, but to a texter it's the biggest pain in the arse when you’re drunk and you want to remember what you've text the next day!

In General, though the D600 is a nice phone. It has good and bad points, some of which can be easily ignore.. some not so much.

I hope that in time the bad points fade cos as I've said before. It's a good looking little phone!
