If anyone wants to know how to use da speaker on da phone while da phone is close, just add da earpiece in da phone. When u make a call just press da middle bottom dat says speaker, then close da phone down. Dis will not end ur call. I used to thought with dis phone dat if u close da phone while da speaker is on, ur call will end. U need to attach da headpiece if u want to speak on da speaker while da phone is close. But if u take off da headpiece while da phone is close and da speaker is on ur call will just end all togetheir. So just keep da headpiece on and everthing will come out good.

if you have read other posts made previously, you would have noticed that some people have succeeded and some failed to turn on the flash with the flip closed (camera mode of course). and also, if you have read previous posts, you would have noticed that only certain firmwares allow that option. please read before you post. if it doesn't work for you, it won't whatever you do (unless you are brave enough to flash your precious phone...not sayin its bad for the phone...its jst risky)
and it'd be appreciated if 'x' stopped asking the same question. (i think my post got deleted before cz i offended him...im really tryin hard not to...)

No need to turn on any special option. I even set the flash off under Camera menu. It works for me. Just don't forget step 2. You need to be in camera mode to use flash as a torch.

Hi, almost a month I've used this phone by swapping my previous Nokia 6600. Here is my experience as long I get used to:
1. When I received contact number via SMS, this E730 always appear "incompatible message". And vise versa to other brand (such as NOKIA & SE). This is annoying me.
2. The battere drain fast, I almost have to charge it every night if not my battere will went out. Based on my daily usage the battere power only can perform 36hours.
regards

REPOST:
Now i've got another question...
torch option (turning on flash while phone is closed)... I can't seem to get it to work.
I already tried pressing the volume key for 2 seconds... and all it has done is light up the OLED external display.
Any special options i need to turn on before I can use my phone like a torch?
Thanks.

rikard,
Thankyou for your review.. i've bought this for my gf and now thinking of getting one myself. It is very stylish and in Oz is only sold by one telco so makes it extra unique.
However I disagree on this point:
"- the only thing i'm missing is the buttom that opens the flip lid automatically so that i don't have to use 2 hands when i'm driving or carrying something."
I can understanding moving from candybar nokia phone's you aren't used to flip phones. It isn't hard to master the art of flipping the phone with one hand.
For a person who carries the phone in your jeans or for ladies in their handbags, you do not want this option that Panasonic phone has because it'll flip when you bump it or drop it and when it hopes you'd may make unwanted calls when you won't need it.
Secondly, u shouldn't be driving when using the phone.. that's what bluetooth is for.

"FM radio will not work without headphones making your head a radio antenna"
Actually you only have to plug the headphone, but still have the option (under Radio menu) to listen through speakerphone or headphone. So if you use speakerphone then you can always put the antenna far far away from your head...

This is the best little stylish-looking phone in the market at the moment. I basically prefer Nokia but their phones look like soap bars and the flip ones are ugly and big. Their latest flip phones have an antenna that's too big to ignore. I thought we were over the antenna thing by now!
Now, about this Samsung E730, I have had it for a couple of weeks now, it sits perfectly in my jeans' little pocket, very nice small display and big display, very functional and easy to use for a non nokia phone.
Good sides:
- green light display clock in small screen
- very good resolution big screen
- very good mp3 player
- compact 87 x 44 x 23 mm
- light weight 88 g
- Sits nice in my jeans' little pocket
- 6 nice shortcuts (4 choosable)
- The outer material is a mix between rubber and plastic, making it stronger and finger print free.
- Nice functions: Bluetooth Java MIDP 2.0
WAP 2.0 T9 Voice memo Built-in handsfree
Bad sides:
- doesn't show time of sent sms
- FM radio is extremely bad
- Organiser is not user friendly
- FM radio will not work without headphones making your head a radio antenna.
- You cannot choose both vibrator and melody only vibrator followed later by a melody
- As a Nokia person, I have now been able to write sms messages alomst as easily and quickly in this samsung as in my previous nokias.
- not so sure about the sound quality yet
- the navigator buttom is too small and believe me i have small fingers.
- the only thing i'm missing is the buttom that opens the flip lid automatically so that i don't have to use 2 hands when i'm driving or carrying something.
Then again: This is the best little stylish looking phone in the market for at least a year from now as i see it.

I bought this phone yesterday. Great phone!!! My first non-Nokia phone.
It doesn't have PHONE LOCK option (autolock, etc) as asked by poster on 23 Sept. But it does have privacy option where you can set 'password' for most of the stuff, include your newly-arrived SMS. People can still access your phonebook though.

For everyone who has problems with uploading MP3s to your E730...
Sorry for those who are trying to use the data cable... I use bluetooth. (I was sure it would be a better investment to get bluetooth...)
Anyways... back to the main point. First, you must install your bluetooth and make sure you turn on bluetooth from the phone also. Once you get them to connect, there won't be anymore hassle afterwards.
The next thing you should do is to go download:
(Sorry about the long link...)
Install the program. Restarting your computer is optional. (I'd recommend it.)
Then turn on both bluetooth and load up the PIM & File manager 2.0 program(samsung program) and it should start loading information from your phone. After loading you can click on File manager and you can easily send data, such as music, images, videos, notes, back and forth.
I'm sorry I can't help those who bought data cables. I have never used them before.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for reading.

Yes,it is true!
I tried pressing al the buttons but nothing seems to work.
It is true that for E530 this option works.
Also,on this one you cannot save the camera options. At least you could put the flash on auto and with the phone closed it would work.
Best regards

There have been several issues regarding the E730 not being detected by the pc through the USB cable. I myself encountered this problem after purchasing the handset.
Generally, pcs these days incorporate several USB ports. Try installing the E730 drivers through any remaining USB ports you may have available. I found this to be the solution to my problem.
Otherwise, try restarting the pc and connecting the phone through the USB cable. Let the operating system (i.e. Windows XP) detect the hardware itself. Don't install the drivers or software unless it has been detected by the operating system.
