Samsung exec: the Galaxy S25 series will have top-of-the-line cameras, displays and chipsets

Peter, 01 August 2024

Samsung shared its Q2 earnings report yesterday and held an earnings call to answer questions from analysts. On that call, company executives confirmed the existence of the Exynos 2500 and they talked about upgrades for the upcoming Galaxy S25 generation as well.

Daniel Araujo, the Vice President of Samsung MX, had this to say:

“For camera and display specs in particular, where we've been leading, the S25 at launch will have top-of-the-line upgrades. And we're also preparing industry-best APs and memory to boost AI performance and offer an overall premium experience.”

Unfortunately, Araujo didn’t clarify if this is for the whole Galaxy S25 series or just the Ultra. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will upgrade to a 50MP 3x camera and a 50MP ultra wide (up from 10MP and 12MP on the S24 Ultra, respectively), which will make them a better match for the new 50MP 5x periscope. However, rumors about the Galaxy S25 and S25+ claim that there will be no upgrades for the two cheaper flagships.

As for Application processors, APs, some units will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and, if the Samsung foundry can improve the yields enough, there will be some units with the Exynos 2500 too. And we’ve even seen reports that some units will use MediaTek chipsets too. Right now it’s not clear which models will use what chipset where, but it looks like there won’t be a repeat of the S23 generation anytime soon (which exclusively used Snapdragon chips). Related to that, the S25 Ultra is expected to get 16GB of RAM, but it’s not clear whether this will be carried over to the other two models (the small S24 still only has 8GB of RAM).

The small Galaxy S25 may feature a larger 6.36” display, up from 6.2” and 6.1” on the last two generations. Other than that, we haven’t heard much about the displays. Here’s hoping that the vanilla and plus models get a taste of S24 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armor, which majorly cuts down on reflections.

Araujo also talked about AI:

“We're expanding the Galaxy AI ecosystem beyond smartphones to include smartwatches, buds, the ring, Tab and Galaxy Books as well as our OS, apps and services. The Galaxy's hybrid AI will effectively make use of both on-device AI for fast and stable usability and cloud AI for high-quality results depending on the situation, while also providing strong security including customer data, and personal information protection through Knox.”
