Samsung G600 with 5 megapixels

Today Samsung officially confirmed the Samsung G600 - its latest cameraphone armed with an impressive 5 megapixel camera. According to the manufacturer, it should be the slimmest slider of its class with a thickness of only 14.9 mm.

The Samsung G600 is a pretty innovative product among other handset products of the Korean manufacturer. It offers an updated user interface and an unpdated web browsing experience due to the newly integrated NetFront browser. The G600 has Bluetooth 2.0 support including the A2DP profile - a real eye-catcher in this respect is its Bluetooth dual mode which basically means that you can pair it with two stereo Bluetooth headsets or you can connect to another Bluetooth device while you are listening to music wirelessly. An impressive addition to the Samsung mobile phone range, the G600 also sports a 2.2" 16M color TFT with a QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution. The handset will have full quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support meaning you can use it wherever you choose to go on your next vacation.


Although the Samsung product shots reveal a secondary video calls camera in the upper left corner of the front panel, official specs state that the Samsung G600 doesn't have UMTS support - in this case either the camera will be present in a future look-alike model, or it's just an ambient light sensor. Further on, G600 will also offer FM radio with RDS, USB 2.0 support, a microSD slot, and a TV-out port.

Five megapixel cameraphones are no longer something revolutionary, but still, the announcements of such handsets will remain trailing news. LG already have their KG920, Nokia have the N95, and soon Sony Ericsson will offer K850. Obviously Samsung doesn't intend to lag behind. However it seems that users are content with what mobile handsets have to offer in terms of photo quality and are looking for improvements in the video recording department. The Samsung G600 promises to deliver CIF (352x288) resolution recording at full 30 fps, while at the same time it will be able to record even in VGA (640x480 pixels) resolution, but most probably not at 30 fps. That is not that bad, having in mind that the VideoCD standard uses CIF video resolution.

The Samsung G600 is expected to start shipping in Europe in August 2007, starting with UK, and the expected street price is around 400EUR. Beside the regular content, the retail box will also include 1GB microSD memory card and a wireless Samsung Bluetooth WEP 210 headset. Strangely enough, the previously announced 5 megapixel Samsung handset, the Samsung F700 smartphone, is also due in August 2007. This summer is promising to be full of nice mobile technology surprises.
