I'm thinkin about buyin this phone. I've had my D900 since day one. Its still a pretty good phone but i want something a lil more stand out. Is it really worth buying, or should i look into something else. I've always had Samsung...except for my Razr (cause of all the hype i got one it sucked). Some one kinda give me another thought on it

Got it delivered on Saturday. Charged it and "Oh my God" what a fantastic phone. Was disapponted with the Xenon flash as it is very weak and does not light anything beyond 2 metres. Also, if you zoom in and use flash, subject is in darkness.

Unfortunately, the joy did not last long. Went to charge on Sunday night...Dead! Would not charge. Also, 3 consecutive alarms failed to go off. Tried charging again....NOTHING!

Oh well, time for T-Mobile to send me a new one.

I got my G800 on Friday and I have to say it is a good phone. It took a bit of getting used to size and weight wise (I was using the D900i previously) but after a while you get used to it. I have had much digging at me over the size of the phone but as somebody else already said it is a good sturdy solid phone. The camera and video what I have seen of them (havent had much chance to play with it properly) are really good. I took a few pics over the weekend and they are really clear. It took me a while to get used to the settings in the phone as there were a few but they are great too - especially the fact that I can set my own message tone - I now have Borat screaming High Five at me every text I get. The music player is brilliant and belts out my song of choice no problem and the radio is good too although doubt will be used much. Overall I love this phone and think it has a great look too - very sexy and the chrome isnt too bad for smudging too. Once you get over the size and weight issue which seems to be the main problem here - I am sure you will all love it too.

PROS: 3.5G hsdpa, 5mp camera with 3x optical zoom an xenon flash CONS: Huge bulky phone, only 256k screen not 16million, no symbian operating system, no sat nav, battery drains alot faster than the g600, no wifi, no built in hard drive, video quality worse than g600 and nokia n95 8gb put, Very very disappionting phone from samsung which cud of been there best ever, ill stick with my samsung g600!!!

When i went into the shop to look at this phone, indeed, it was chunky, and i think the spacious key pad didn't exactly help make the phone look small.
Having said this i believe that this has a chance of being the camerphone of the year. i have seen a a lot smaple photo's from it and they are brilliant and the 3x opitical zoom is a fantastic idea.
                    Good work samsung.

After seeing the samsung G800 in person i rang up o2 and upgraded the next day. Its true it is a bit chunky and it would be nice if it was slimmer but its not as bad as every one says; its's just only thicker than the sony ericsson k850i and almost as thick as the nokia n95. It's also doesn't seem that heavy even though on paper it, i found it to be very light, which was strange. The display was good.
I agree that the Nokia n95's spec is more desirable but the N series is generally un-reliable and the n95's build quality is cheap and nasty. I don't need it's slow sat- Nav because i've got Tom Tom. It's a shame the G800 doesn't have wi-fi but its 3.5G, video recorder is not as good as nokia n95 but it looks better, probably more reliable, has excellent build quality and optical zoom. It can be argued that the Nokia n95 or SE k850i have better build quality but when it comes to 3 time s zoom, the G800 will always win hands up because it loose clarity compared to the other digital zooms.
I like Sony ericsson but find the k850i very difficult to use with its awkward d-pad and crappy little keys.
The nokia n95 8GB in my opinion looks ugly, the 8Gb internal memory slows it down and it has no camera cover.
LG viewty is nice but a few things let it down; no lens cover, the awkward jog wheel at the back for zoom and browsing and the fact that it has a dongle instead of a stylus is just stupid.
The sasmung G800 could have been improved by not having such a big lens cover, VGA video camera instead of QVGA and wi-fi.
Although the G800 is not perfect, in my humble opinion compared to the competition it is the best choice, at least for me anyway.

James: there's no wifi on this phone, so no point for me. however, the camera's xenon flash and 3x optical zoom looks good.

Really?? That is KER-Racking value for money!!

We are way more expensive. Damn...

I'm gonna have to rip off way more customers to make up for the money I'm gonna lose not being able to sell those G800's.

                            Sniff.

Wow... this phone is HUGE! As someone else wrote here: it looks very very sexy in the pics, but I was shocked when I saw it in real life. It's about as big as a N95 and quite heavy.

Wanted to buy it, saw it (shocking!) decided not to ;-)
