Samsung Galaxy A80 in for review

Enrique, 02 June 2019

Samsung has released a bunch of A-series devices this year, but certainly the most intriguing one is the Galaxy A80. We’ve already reviewed a number of other Galaxy A-series devices but the A80 is the standout A-series phone with its sliding-rotating triple camera setup.

For starters, the Samsung Galaxy A80 doesn’t use a notch or a hole-punch selfie camera. It doesn’t even have a top bezel because there’s no dedicated selfie camera.

The main triple camera setup turns around and faces forward when you need to take selfies. Exit the selfie mode and the whole thing slides back down and swivels the camera back in its default rear-facing position.

This triple camera setup is comprised of a 48MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a 3D ToF sensor for extra precise depth sensing.

This means you get to enjoy some properly high-quality selfies as you'd be using the main 48MP camera for those. The trick worked wonders for the Asus Zenfone 6 and we are hopeful the Galaxy A80 will be able to repeat its feat.

At the front of Samsung's best A series phone is a huge 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 px) with a tall 20:9 aspect ratio.

Thanks to the swivel camera design, the phone has very thin bezels along the top and sides of the phone with the chin only slightly wider than the rest.

The phone is powered by a large 3,700 mAh battery and an efficient 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 730. It gets 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage onboard.
