Samsung Galaxy A8 to come with a new 16MP camera sensor
The Samsung Galaxy A8 has really been hitting the rumor mill hard. The amount of information we have gathered about the still unannounced handset is almost ridiculous and includes live images, certifications with specs and even a hands-on video. Consequently, we have learned that the new 5.7-inch metal phablet will be only 5.9mm thick, making in the thinnest Samsung smartphone to date.
Still, the Galaxy A8 specs promise a 16MP camera, which is somewhat of a problem as the 16MP Sony IMX240 and the Samsung ISOCELL sensors, used in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are too thick to fit inside the small space. Clearly, some modification has been made and today, new information has shed light on what the Korean giant has done to shave off a few millimeters.
Industry sources claim that the Galaxy A8 will use an ISOCELL sensor, but a slightly downgraded one. The new module, model number LSI3P3, has a reduced pixel size of 1.0 µm. This makes it a whole 23% thinner than the aforementioned Sony unit for a total thickness of only 5mm - just right to fit inside the Galaxy A8. This modification is sure to take its toll on camera quality, but we can't really be certain exactly how damaging the sensor reduction has been until we get to test the new smartphone.
Judging by the rumors that are intensifying by the day, we can only expect to see an official announcement of the Galaxy A8 pretty soon.
