Samsung Galaxy A8s is now for sale, costs less than $450
Samsung was the first company to officially introduce a smartphone with a camera under the display. The device is called Galaxy A8s and has just appeared for sale at the Chinese online retailer JD.com. There is only one memory choice and a single price tag of CNY2,999, or under $450.
Samsung Galaxy A8s was announced with either 6 or 8 GB RAM, but the initial market launch features the lower-powered variant. The storage is 128 GB either way and you have a microSD slot for up to 512 GB more. This device is powered by Snapdragon 710 chipset and has Android Pie out of the box with customized UI for the Chinese market.
While the back has three cameras, lined similarly to what Apple does to its iPhone X devices, the front shooter is the big deal - it is 24 MP with f/2.0 lens, peeking underneath an Infinity-O notch in the LCD panel. The Galaxy A8s is clearly just a test how the wide audience will react to the new solutions, with the design likely to be transferred to the anniversary flagship Galaxy S10.
Shipping might be live in China, but we are still waiting to hear more about an offline launch and eventual arrival of the 8/128 GB variant. For now, you can get the Galaxy A8s in all three colors - Blue, Aurora Black and Alien Silver. There are also some gifts like power banks, holders and JD vouchers.
