The midrange and entry level market in China has been flooded with phones from the domestic manufacturers, specifically with models that are China only and are dirt cheap. For instance, you can get the highest end Redmi Note 13 model for the equivalent of 260e. I believe this is Samsung's atempt to remain competitive in the Chinese market, given that it barely makes any revenue here (I live and work in China). I would assume, they're giving a low cost gateway to people with the hopes of retaining customers based on the software experience.
However, I still do not believe this will be enough to push the locals towards Samsung.

Everything about this phone is great. Specs, looks, especially the price ($275 USD equivalent). Shame it's China-exclusive.

I'm surprised it took Samsung this long to return to the faux leather back after it has a resurgence recently. Given the fact their Note 3 and S5 from a decade ago had faux leather backs (I don't know if there were any after that) and they were pretty well received, I thought they'd be quicker to jump back in lol.
Honestly looks quite nice with their current design for their phones.
