i bought this phone second hand a few years ago. still works today.
latest official fw still kitkat 4.4 battery life sucks on official fw due to samsung apps running in background. lag issues is due to poor flash memory installed. common issue for samsung phones s5 and earlier.
you can unlock bootloader, install android 7.1 lineage on it. modern apps work but those that use more than 1gb of ram. you need to root and install fstrim so that trim garbage collection runs frequently so it doesnt lag. Battery life still good on 7 year old battery, about 8h screen on time.

I bought this cellphone for my wife as she realized she really did need WhatsApp!
One problem she has though, is that with incoming calls, the volume is extremely loud.
Via the settings, I've moved down to the left as far as I can go. It's still extremely loud. One more shift to the left and it's on mute. Is there any adjustment I've overseen?

Awesome/decent phone.
Ok for daily use and music. but phone is quite (laggy) and (not 720p). (Texting messages doesn't work) sometimes and (apps close randomly).
Otherwise, the phone is ok

This phone I have had for nearly four years now,its still working just like new,no problems at all,never needed to replace original battery.
One of the best models Samsung has ever made,its just a nice size for handling,and with thegood leather case iI bought ,it will I hope last for another four years.
These new Models,although bigger screens have the built in batteries,cannot change them,unless you take it in to someone who knows how,and they charge link hell.
No I cannot fault this little beauty.

I've been using this phone since its release, and Cyanogen/LineageOS even carried it all the way to Android 7.1.2! I would've continued using this device indefinitely if not for a worsening issue with the touchscreen: its response has become inaccurate, touch events do not always seem to register exactly where I pressed. Scrolling and panning gestures result in very jumpy movements, scrolling through e.g. longer articles is a pain.
I'm not sure if this issue is due to the hardware's age; if you can get your hands on a new device which doesn't have this issue, go ahead and use it, although it probably won't move to Android Oreo (the LOS port developer moved to another device). The device will withstand minor water splashes and is sturdy enough to survive getting dropped on tile :) Browsing the web might be slow with current browsers/current websites, but most apps still work very well if you tune down or disable animations. Battery life with LOS 14.1 is phenomenal (still on the original battery!) and charging is very fast (slightly above 1.5hrs to charge it from 0-100%).

Had one for over 3 years and it was the best phone I have ever had. Never made any problems, until it just turned off one day all by itself and wouldn't turn on any more. It did, two days after that, but I had already bought a new phone.

I've had the I8730T for about three years, and it seemed OK for a couple of years, but has recently developed a mind of its own, won't give the screen that is selected, runs very slow, despite using a cleaning app, and is generally a pain in the butt. I'm looking around for something better.

It is the worst phone I have ever owned. It has a mind of its own it's slow,I have problem charging it,it adds words when you're texting, you have to double check your text, if it's right you hit send ,it changes it to something that doesn't make sense so this is liable to come out stupid

If you cant get a signal, you cant use anything else on this not so smart phone. Cant use the camera, cant use in internet , even if you have a wifi connection. This phone is
stupid.

Ive had my fun with cool phones, Service contracts data and the she 9yards. Love that AT&T decided to upgrade the low quality go phones. I'm down for $45 a month unlimited everything. Got a 50%off deal on new Samsung galaxy express 3 cool
Not too big, does exactly what I need.However....wait for it...after I took my 7th photo....I cannot get in to my phone gallery. Says I don't have enough storage to open the app?? Are you kidding me ?? Spent all weekend getting my important stuff loaded on it ( bank, email FB Instagram,) And I don't play any games...so i take a photo Monday morning and try to upload it and that's when I discover the gallery /storage issues. Bout to get online now and deal with this. Been AT&T customer for 13 years! And they sell me a POS phone that sucks !

Something else it has started changing the time and date by itself whether it's set by the network or manually. Some times it is suddenly off by months. I've missed appointments because the alarm didn't go off because the phone thought it was 10pm at night in February when it was really 7am in the morning in August.
Seriously anyone considering buying this phone steer clear

This has to be by far the worst phone that I have ever used in my life. My friend lent it to me after I lost my original Moto G on a night out. I've been using the I8730 since until I have enough for a new phone.
All I can say is that it's a good thing this isn't my own phone or I would have taken a hammer and smashed this piece of crap into pieces a long time ago.
It can't keep a signal over Internet or wifi. Sometimes it decides it won't send your texts for weeks if at all. It constantly freezes up and I have no choice but to pull the battery.
Word of advice stay clear of low to mid range Samsung phones, they suck. Their high end phones are alright but any of the rest are overpriced pieces of crap. You'd be better off spending your money on a Huawei P9 Lite or a bit more for a OnePlus 3
