But for first time android or even phone buyer many things needed to be bought with this phone like 1 charger, 1 ear phone, 1 back cover, 1 glass protector which will increase the cost overall.
Those days are gone when phones used to be cheap, network operators had diverse plan offerings.
Nowadays everyone is trying to implement a subscription base model in their products thus increasing cost.
In these days inflation is also eating those extra cost.

I think a business model might work well like -
If the phone's hardware is able to handle newer versions of android then either phone manufacturer or google should give the phone owner an option to buy new android versions and update their old phone to new android version.
I think some people will buy new android versions as it will be less costly than getting a new phone again.
I hope this type of function become available in future.

And the need to use unlimited data in mobile is low as not much things consume such high data in mobile.

The software update part mostly depends on brands.
I think brands need to purchase license agreement from google to use their os, thus they give extra updates.
But those who don't buy those agreements fails to give the update.
And yes the hardware also becomes old to run too many future updates.

What different SoC mean for 99% of mobile phone users (benchmark experts are not included):
Exynos: 3-4 years support, lower cost for phone
MediaTek: 2-3 years support
Snapdragon: 2 years support, highest rate of security issues of all chipsets, slightly higher performance (99% will never notice)
