Samsung Galaxy Fame review: In the spotlight
Good 5MP camera
The Samsung Galaxy Fame comes with a 5MP camera, which is able to capture photos at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. It also has an LED flash to assist it in low lighting conditions.
The interface is virtually the same as what is found most Galaxy devices, with only a few things missing here and there. On the right there's the still camera / camcorder switch, a virtual shutter key and the gallery shortcut (which is a thumbnail of the last photo taken).
On the left, you get several controls and the good news is that you can pick any three shortcuts to put there - its let you easily have all frequently used features just a tap away.
You can also move the icons around to your liking, but the bottommost shortcut always points to Settings.
The Fame has several features and shooting modes: touch focus, smile shot, share shot, and panorama mode. You can also adjust the exposure value, white balance, and take self-shots and videos with the front-facing camera.
Samsung's pedigree of good image quality with recent devices has transferred well to the Samsung Galaxy Fame. The colors are accurate and the dynamic range is good, with no over aggressive noise reduction or lack of detail to ruin the party.

VGA video recording is decent for its class
The camcorder interface of the Galaxy Fame is almost the same as the still camera's - you get the same customizable panel on the left with four shortcuts.
The image quality is also very pleasant, with no noise or compression artifacts and good color reproduction. Obviously, the VGA resolution is low by today's standards, but this is a budget device after all. The videos are shot @ just over 25fps and are stored in MP4 files with 2.5Mbps overall bitrate and mono sound at 62.9Kbps / 48kHz.
