It's true 8 GB, but 3,96 GB already being used by memory system.
So you only have around 4 GB free.
It will only detect around 4 GB if you check it through USB-PC connect

I am a SAMSUNG GRAND DUOS fan and I own 1 now in black color. I thought I could never find a PERFECT smartphone; and by perfect means, all USEFUL FEATURES in 1 gadget such as :
1. Mp3 and FM radio for music lovers.. Supported with a 3.5 jack headset .
2. HD and non-HD video playback... utorrent free application compatible for movie downloads
3. Bluetooth and Data cable file transfer capable.. Unlike apple devices, file transfer is dependent to PC with iTunes
4. High quality photo capture and video recording with autofocus on closest and farthest details. Useful in scanning documents and photocopying textbooks
5. DUAL SIM active to take advantage of 2 networks either a SIM card's prepaid promos or postpaid plans in just 1 phone.. during the first month, I only had SIM 1 connected to internet.. But I just learned how to do it also with SIM 2 ( go to settings, more settings, mobile networks, uncheck Use only 2G networks on SIM 1 and check the same option on SIM 2).
6. Other unmentioned features like games and 21mbps data speed, expandable micro SD card makes me love my SAMSUNG GRAND duos more than my iPhone and other smartphone brands. I have 1 in black, I'm planning to buy another 1 in white on December.
