It function is to detect nearby object in front of it. Example, when you are calling someone (then place your phone on the cheek/ear), the proximity sensor detect and turn off the screen to prevent your cheek or ear from accidentally pressing the touchscreen.

I just saw this phone at the Mall here in the Philippines, and it only cost Php6,990 (around $167) from the previous cost of Php8,900(around $210). And I'm just curious why is it so cheap now? Is it because the specs weren't good? Can someone help me w/ this? I'm now hesitant buying this phone after I read some of the posts here. :_(

Billy, 11 Sep 2011Android Gingerbread for this galaxy mini is "AVAILABLE... morenope gingerbread is not officially available in many parts of the world.but unofficially it is possible by flashing?as i am a budget guy i dont have the courage to risk my phone just for a update.so pls samsung roll the update quickly.dont just sell devices but improve your customer services.nokia is way better than you guys in this sector.

for you all who gets problem with this phone's battery backup and says that's poor, you're the one who didn't know about technology. great phones always "eat" its battery because of their features. a longlife battery phone was an ordinary phones which just can be used as ordinary functions like calls and sms only.

Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 is very nice but most of programs are downloaded on phone memory which is very small (only 160MB), any one can assist me how can i move programs from phone memory to memory card ??? or to be always downloaded on memory card ???
