Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra's Victus glass impresses in drop test

Samsung brought the Galaxy Note20 Ultra with sheets of Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and the back - the successor to the Gorilla Glass 6, which promised better scratch and shatter protection.

The YouTube channel PhoneBuff subjected the phone to its usual drop test and compared it with Apple’s top dog - the iPhone 11 Pro Max. You can watch the results below.

Dropping a phone on its back is usually worse than the front because the camera bump offsets the contact point - instead of having a massive flat surface to dissipate the energy, the camera setup creates weak points, not to mention that it moves the impact point.

With that in mind, the GG Victus massively outperforms the iPhone’s GG 6. Yes, the rectangular bump has a few scratches, and the glass next to it is cracked, but the condition is clearly better than the iPhone.

The second drop is a corner drop - smartphones usually get dropped on their corners a lot so it is obvious that manufacturers would do their best to harden these contact points. The edge picks up a few scratches but that won’t affect the looks or the performance of the phone.

The face drop is where the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra blows away the iPhone 11 Pro Max. After 10 drops, the panel is safe and sound with minor scratches only visible under direct light.

It is really important to have a durable phone, especially when it has a starting price tag of $1,299. Corning said having a new, more durable protective glass is an investment that would pay out in time and customers are willing to pay extra to have a proper protection.
