This is a great phone, if you compare it to the current midrange phones that are available, this phone still is up there with the best of them.
On the other hand, because it only goes to Lollipop, I would advise you to custom rom the phone for additional security.

If they just use their phone for browsing Instagram and doing anything aside from stuff with 3d graphics, this is a perfectly good phone. The battery is replaceable and they come very cheap, as you can get one new for under 5 bucks with free shipping. And the display is pretty solid, 1080p and OLED. And the camera ain't half bad. Now sure, buying it in 2020 is a different story but continuing to use it isn't a terrible idea.

I've had my Note 3 since 2013 and it still works great! I've replaced the battery a few times, dropped it dozens of times and it's still going. I've had no system problems and everything still works as it should. I even bought a Wireless Charger Receiver Module, which is a very, very thin pad that slips on to the back of the battery and now I can use a charging pad!
Some apps are no longer compatible, but that's okay; the trade-off of not having those apps, but having this phone is worth it to me. I won't get rid of it until it falls apart or dies completely because it's such a reliable phone.

Kofiskofi, 20 Feb 2020My Galaxy note 3; is locked after changing my password What... moreyou'll gonna have to factory reset your phone via android recovery.
power off your phone, then press buttons volume up + home button + power button. if it takes you android recovery click on the volume buttons to control the device. volume up button selects options up. volume down button selects options up. press the power button to go to the option.
find the option that says "wipe data/factory reset" and click on that using the power button. if it says yes or no put yes.
this will remove all data from your phone (apps, files, etc) and that might be your last resort if you want to keep using your note 3.

I ordered a NIB replacement Note 3 for $125, swapped SIM card and everything is as it was. I like being able to pop of the back off to replace the battery. And everything else you said is true. Really good smart phone.

I had the Note 3 for two years and I regret upgrading it. The Note 3 worked, it worked well, and it was fairly gentle on the Battery. I had a backup battery that I would swap every few days to keep things fresh, and a replacement battery was cheap.

I am still using my Note 3 after 7 years. Still works great, I have bought new batteries for it and the battery lasts all day. I buy after market Otterbox case for $10 and also new s-pens. A few apps do not work but that's no problem I can just goto the website for the app.
I am going stay with this beast of a phone until they official phase out Android 5.0, it still has a lot of users so I am guess other year or 2.
