Anonymous, 09 Jul 20144.4.2 is meant to allow camera access from the home screen ... moreNo need for that, just add the camera to the lock screen shortcut.
Why do you have to make things complicated?

That allows me to select "favourite apps or camera" but it does nothing. The Note 2 had a lot more options for the default lock screen.

4.4.2 is meant to allow camera access from the home screen but i cant get it happening. Any ideas?

              http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-l-may-change-sd-card-access-rules/

I'm currently using ES3 Explorer for my needs of transferring files to the memory expansion. Thank goodness Note 3 came with 32GB internal memory. I used to do DirectoryBind with the 16GB Note II to take advantage of the apps installers being transferred to the 64GB external memory. I doubt mind the restriction as Google had safety control in mind.

Apparently if you have a rooted phone you can install the app "SDFix" to solve the write to external SD card issue.

I won't be rooting my Note 3 though as ES explorer works.

I just checked orux maps write to SD card and it fails. It seems that some of the bigger / newer apps have this issue sorted but there would be many programs that don't. DAMN YOU GOOGLE FOR CHANGING YOUR API!!!!

I know that ES file explorer did have this problem originally but they have found a work around with the programming.

With 4.4.2, I appreciate certain things that I think ate big since I use them:
                    1. SideSync-Working even with hotspot on.
                    2. Nearby device now works without the need of a separate router, for you to access media in the Note 3 via a tablet or Samsung.
                    3. Screen mirroring works with camera function (discovered this by accident).

                    Cheers.

I finally was able to update to 4.4.2 (ABOUT TIME Telstra & Samsung)

There are a few minor changes and no real bugs. Battery may be a bit better and the boot loop has been fixed.

I have tested the external card with video, music, orux maps and ES file explorer and don't have any problem moving or accessing files.

Normally I download torrents and transfer the files from Device to SD Card and then SD Card to PC usually, songs etc, you can see all the files in SD Card no problems in that.

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2014Pls my dear Note 3 users, is it true that after kitkat upda... moreThere are some apps that can't write onto the memory directly to the card, and you can't seem to write directly from PC to card via USB. You need to unmount the card and transfer via a card slot on they PC. ES3 File explore seems to work transferring files with the Note 3, but not Astro anymore.

I can't save downloading files using Atorrent directly to my card. I need to transferring the files after onto the card manually.

There's nothing wrong about reading files from the card, and all files are accounted for. I suspect Google made this as a precaution against wear and tear of micro SD cards, which I welcome now, or perhaps preventing viruses from spreading onto expansion cards?

                                  I currently use a Samsung 64GB card.
