Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim camera sensors detailed: 200+50+50MP

Peter, 19 November 2024

Earlier this month, Ice Universe posted that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will have an Ultra camera, but didn’t offer more specifics. Now another leakster, Sanju Choudhary, claims to know the exact sensors that will be used in the mid-season upgrade (the Slim is expected to take the place of the S25 FE).

The main camera will have a 200MP sensor, a new ISOCELL HP5, which some reports claim will measure 1/1.56” according to the leakster, though older reports claimed it would be 1/1.3” (the same size as the HP2 inside the S24 Ultra). This sensor is usually mentioned in the context of the Galaxy Z Fold7.

The ultra wide camera and the telephoto camera will both use the 50MP JN5 sensor (1/2.76”, 0.64µm pixels). Some reports have claimed that the S25 Ultra will use a JN3 (0.7µm pixels) instead, but that’s close enough. A bigger difference between the current and upcoming S Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Slim is that it will only have one telephoto camera.

According to Choudhary, the Slim telephoto camera will have 3.5x optical zoom. It will allegedly use the All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) design, which Samsung unveiled just yesterday. It flips the traditional periscope design around by putting the lenses in front of the prism, not behind.

The advantage of this layout is that it can be packaged more tightly – the ALoP modules are both shorter and thinner than the traditional periscope design. And thinness will be the main selling point of the S25 Slim.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to launch in the second half of 2025 and, if successful, it could influence the design of the S26 series.

So this year is a test bed on the flagship killer, then next year it will be classed as premium. Don't buy slim as it will mean reduced battery capacity and more overheating for the chipset.
