I just started using Marshmallow on my S5...it's not even a day yet but I will share my preliminary findings so far. The Marshmallow operating system is really fast ONLY if you do a CLEAR CACHE and FULL WIPE DATA FACTORY RESET otherwise it may perform slower than a snail. Battery life is BETTER. At first it seemed to be worse but I got to understand that the smartphone was studying my usage habits...it states it when you open the battery app. Battery life definitely got better in no time. I haven't even gotten access to the Doze feature as yet due to Marshmallow studying my usage pattern and the battery life is already better. I normally use POWER SAVING with KiKat and Lollipop but I'm not doing so with Marshmallow as I want to test out the biggest claim that graced Marshmallow, better battery life.

There also seems to be some new features like continuos low energy consumption bluetooth scanning for nearby devices for this and that...which can be disabled. I have left that feature on for the time being.

Most importantly this is the smoothest I have ever seen the S5. It's smoother than butter now but there seems to be a bug as the system audible notifications are low in volume which also goes for the shutter sound in the camera...I can live with that. Regular notifications like Whatsapp, sms etc. are very loud, probably louder than before. Calling volume seems to be louder than before as well...I was on a whatsapp call earlier on loudspeaker and even though the volume was turned down to less than half it was still loud. There is a lot to like based on my preliminary findings.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:

If you have enabled fingerprint unlocking, after a restart you have to enter your unlock password. You will then get to use your fingerprint when the phone goes back into lock state. I don't see the logic behind that but maybe Samsung knows best.

I liked the idea of having a vibrate effect once the fingerprint scanner recognise your finger. This feature was introduced in Lollipop. It was a nice feature because you could close your eyes and unlock your phone, or simple not have to look at your S5 screen to see if it got unlocked as once you felt the vibration after running your fingers over the scanner, that simply meant your phone was unlocked. Well, with Marshmallow whether or not your fingerprint is recognised there's a vibration...so it's back to KitKat days where you have to look at your S5 to see if it was unlocked.

Apart from those two gripes which I can live with, Marshmallow so far seems to be greater than KitKat and Lollipop. I will give a full review in the near future...even though this may have seemed like a full review (smile).

No problem my friend. I will give a thorough review as soon as I have used it enough. One thing I can tell you though, it has software traces of the S7 eg, the way the SAMSUNG name appears on the screen when the phone is starting up.

Click 'the PLAY button for the video in this link to see what I'm talking about in regards to the similarity of the S5 now starting up like the S7. No startup music anymore but I can live with that.

To EVERYONE who upgraded to Marshmallow (Android 6.0) what is the total capacity size of the internal memory?

I have the 16GB S5. When I got my S5 with KitKat the total capacity was 11.45GB. When I upgraded to Lollipop it got reduced to 10.33GB. Seeing that the OTA version of Marshmallow is smaller than Lollipop I'm wondering if the capacity is higher than 10.33GB.

              All responses are appreciated.

I heard that the phone doesn't automatically reset like it did with Lollipop. Did you manually do a factory reset or a hard factory rest?

The update is ridiculous. There are no pros to this update on my phone.

My phone battery drains after a few hours since it updated. It lags worse than my old laptop even when doing simple things like typing a short word into a text. Some apps were added that I don't need, others I had uninstalled months ago were suddenly reinstalled and running, and the widgets changed and screwed up my screen layouts.

Just a thought ; I'm really sure this 6.0 marshmallow update will be the s5's last,I was wondering has any one with the 6.0 update tried installing the Galaxy s6 & s7 game launcher apk ? I heard it allows you to reduce the screen resolution of your device to 720p when gaming.

Some users of galaxy S5 have found a small bug in this update!! The lock screen sometimes doesn't seem to turnoff when you get a msg i.e., until you press the power off button, the display doesn't turn of its own as it should be!! This can cause significant battery drain!!

If you are facing the same problem, I have found a fix for this!! Just remove the peel remote widget from the lock screen or disable the peel remote app!! Now the lock screen will turnoff automatically after sometime a msg comes and it also saves a lot of battery too!!
