Galaxy S8 durability test scratches, burns, and tries to bend it

Vlad, 19 April 2017

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are launching across the world, the customary durability test on video has been released by the JerryRig Everything YouTube channel.

As usual, Zack starts with the scratch test, using different Mohs picks. The S8's Gorilla Glass 5 scratches at level 6, which is in line with expectations. The earpiece grille is made out of metal, but its position is a bit strange.

On the back, the camera's slightly-protruding ring is also metal, while the flash is under the back glass. If you want to know how long the S8 was able to take a flame directly on its screen and what happened afterwards, make sure you watch the entire video.

Its final moment is all about the infamous bend test. If for some reason you're unable to watch the video, know this: "there is almost zero flex to this thing". No seals are being broken either, even if you apply a lot of pressure. So it looks like durability won't be a concern for you if you buy an S8, except if you drop it of course. It's a 'glass sandwich', after all, and glass does still shatter.

I agree. I rather have it tested like the one in samsung video battery test. They placed the phone in a heating chamber of 50 degree celsius. That would be a proper test simulating overheating of the phone instead of burning it with direct flame.
