I mean the new Mediatek SoCs are generally good for budget phones/tablets, but for this price.... Hm

im confused where is the regular tab s10 there is only the s10+ and s10 ultra

OSIEYO, 19 Nov 2024Am curious to know garbage in what way, especially the 9300... moreIdk about garbage but Mediatek SoCs have a bad reputation and for 100% valid reasons. That guy might just be purely hating and I don't know what these recent TSMC made chips can do IRL but speaking from personal experiences.

      1. Mediatek SoCs are usually worse than Qualcomm Adreno chips in reliability and longevity. Not gaming for long time but they degrade at a noticeable pace. I have owned about 4 or 5 Mediatek run phones and they all begin to show age after about 2 years whereas when I bought my first ever Qualcomm S4 device (Lumia 925) which was at least 3 years older than all the Mediatek devices I owned, it was smoother even playing (at the time) popular games like temple run Oz and Subway Surfers. I later bought a OnePlus 2 which came with Snapdragon 810 (notorious of overheating) and it was still more stable than any and all of my friends Mediatek phones. I used the OP2 for about 3-4 years and this thing was my "guinea pig" phone for custom ROMs, Kernels, all sorts of beta ROMs, overclocking and everything you can imagine besides physical abuse and that thing survived all of it until I finally upgraded to OP 7 Pro which again lasted almost 6 years until last month when it stoped working but I think it's a board corrosion issue.

      2. Better Community support - Qualcomm chips have better modder support anond modders and developers for custom ROMs and emulation. Most of the greatest tinkering gems have been Qualcomm run phones on SD 615, 625, 630, 660, 810, 820, 845, 855 and more. (I got my OP 2 running Android 9 Pixel Experience with good battery life but I messed up the overclocking so that's on me)

      3. Qualcomm is/seemingly more mature - ISPs, Networking, Connection reliability, Audio handling and more even outside of mobile devices like dedicated WiFi and BT chips are superior to Mediatek and Realtek. I mean even Apple uses Qualcomm modems in their phones and tabs and everybody knows how Apple feels about relying on "partners" for components (they dropped Intel like the dead weight it was in a heartbeat)

      4. Qualcomm is a US based company - well this you may just understand as is, being an American comoany has perks in global business. They have robust talent acquisition and a stable flow of money to keep good research and development. The move toward 5G nationwide in the US also boosted their relationship with government bodies since they are "the best comms provider". They bought nuvia which I think was a breakoff from an Apple silicon or AI development branch. You get the gist.

It's not so much that current Mediatek SoCs are bad but they have a long way to go fixing their tainted image among consumers and building a reputation, and it will be difficult because more users take interest in semiconductor technology (good thing imo).

In early 2000s there was a popular phrase among elitists in the tech world going "real men own fabs". This part of technology is super complicated and seriously competitive. Intel slacked and they are struggling now, Samsung is in trouble, ban on Huawei got them in the catch-up game and even they are now 2-3 generation behind Qualcomm in performance. So that's thw same with Mediatek, they pretty built a bad inage for themselves until 2020s I think. Helio series was still meh. Dimensity changed a lot but some people (like that guy) must have had really bad experience with Mediatek in the past and can't accept Mediatek SoCs in premium products with premium price tags yet.

Oh yeah, Mediatek was almost never used for flagship phones and tablets before Dimensity showed up.

(Sorry for any spelling mistakes or grammatical issues)
Anyway, that's my bunch of 2 cents. ✌️

Blueblazzzen, 19 Nov 2024Mediatek chips are garbage! Samsung really made a mess of t... moreIf they decide to switch to the Mediatek from previously SnapDragon, I won't mind and I would appreciate their move.

But I have to concern about the GPU option.

Since it's non SnapDragon then it's guaranteed they can't attach the Adreno into it.

Any chip other than SnapDragon aren't garbagable, yet outside the Apple's own GPU there's still no other GPU comparable to the Adreno - let alone to equate it.

So, about this device, this aspect is the only problem I concern the most regarding its chipset.

Blueblazzzen, 19 Nov 2024Mediatek chips are garbage! Samsung really made a mess of t... moreAm curious to know garbage in what way, especially the 9300+, because am using a phone with SD 680 and I can tell you for a fact it's kinda garbage. I think it's not fare to compare old/ mid range chips to flagship chips. I've seen that s10+ outperform the previous gen tabs in every other aspect of performance, so which comparisons have you made directly in order to clearly state that with certainty?

Mediatek chips are garbage! Samsung really made a mess of this tablet! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TRASH!

Planing to buy one next yr despite all the negative feedback from previous tab s series owners. I've never owned any tablet before so I just can't wait for a future release, and I belive the 7 yr support is better than any previous series have in terms of being future proof so I'll hopefully get the plus version and come back to update this comment once I've used it a bit

Upon recieveing the box it had a good weight to it, Not light but not heavey but felt reasuringly weighty. The tablet was actually larger than i expected but the quality of the screen really showed up at first glance. It felt good in the hands, easy to hold but maybe a little heavey to hold for too long when watching a film or a video, for that you need a stand really.

SkyFX, 25 Oct 2024Samsung has always launched their tabs with last year'... moreButter smooth at the begginging, nightmare later on. The reason why I would buy it is for the UI and the software support which Xiaomi is lacking badly. Plus, not all people want a cheap iOS copy OS. The CPU is good enough.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2024Introduced right before 9400 was released, idk about thisThe 9300+ SoC, in the Tab S10 series, was only released in May 2024. So only three months prior to the Tab S10 series release. It was the top Dimensity SoC when the Tab S10 series was released. Until a few weeks ago, when the Dimensity 9400 was announced.

Samsung has always launched their tabs with last year's gen chipsets, or close to next gen SoC release window.
I don't understand what people buy 1000€+ tabs, might as well just go with ultrabooks or a gaming laptop at that price point. Imagine paying this price to get last year's SoC with (still) poor DEX/desktop experience and this round no custom ROM support.

What are you gonna do on it you can't on a laptop, play mobile games rendered in 720p 60fps? Take photos at 13mp? What/who is this product for really?
Some OEMs have completely lost touch with what a tab was for; to be the middle ground between a PC and a phone at a reasonable price.

I recently bought the Xiaomi Tab 6 8gb/256gb for 290€. It's buttery smooth and does everything I need a tab to do. Even has USB 3.1 and custom ROM support. So much for so little, amazing how it's possible innit?

DaneThorsson, 21 Oct 2024I agree, that Dimension is faster that S7s Snapdragon, but ... moreThe reason they went with it was probably cost. Since the Dimensity chips are cheaper than the Snapdragon chips.

I don't know about them being sub-par. Since they have been rated rather well. They just haven't been around as long as the Snapdragon chips.

aaronwt, 08 Oct 2024Except the Dimensity 9300+ SoC in the Tab S10 series smokes... moreI agree, that Dimension is faster that S7s Snapdragon, but i can't understand why they went with that instead of latest Snapdragon.
