Samsung Galaxy Young S6310 review: Just for starters
Just for starters
Samsung Galaxy Young 360-degree view
The Galaxy Young has a familiar glossy finish, but the white paintjob helps it avoid looking cheap. At 109.4 x 58.6 x 12.5 mm, it's well on the thick side even for an entry-level droid. On the other hand, the Young weighs the reasonable 112g and is very comfortable to hold and easy to operate.
Design and build quality
In terms of design, the Young is clearly indebted to the Galaxy S III, though you can't reasonably expect the same level of sophistication. The glossy finish, obviously being no hyperglaze, is quite simple but the white paintjob is good at hiding fingerprints. The handset is comfortably curved and fits nicely in the hand.
The microUSB port at the bottom and 3.5mm audio jack on the top are readily accessible, while the microSD card slot is located underneath the battery cover. It's above the battery compartment itself, so you can hot-swap it too.
Controls
Below the screen is the usual set of controls: capacitive Menu and Back keys on either side of a hardware Home key. The keys are well sized and spaced but the capacitive controls have no haptics or backlighting.
The three-button combo below the screen
Above the display you'll find the earpiece, as well as a proximity sensor. There's no ambient light sensor though, so auto screen brightness adjustment is not availble.
No front-facing camera and no auto-brightness sensor
The 3.5mm headphone jack is at the top of the phone.
At the bottom are the microUSB port and the mouthpiece.
The mic is located on the bottom next to the microUSB port
On the left side of the Samsung Galaxy Young we find the volume rocker while the power/lock key is symmetrically placed across on the right.
The power/lock key is on the right, while the volume rocker is on the left
The Galaxy Young has a 3 megapixel fixed-focus camera and no LED flash. The loudspeaker grille is in the top right corner at the back.
The 3 megapixel camera is the star backstage
The back cover closes around of the sides of the device as well. It's fairly easy to remove by gently pulling at the top, but it fits tightly in place with no squeaks or wobble.
Underneath the battery cover we find the microSD card slot, the SIM compartment and the 1300 mAh battery.
