Samsung Gear smartwatches to stay with Tizen OS

Yordan, 08 June 2018

Last month Evan Blass tweeted that some Samsung employees were spotted rocking Gear smartwatches with Wear OS, instead of the in-house Tizen OS.

A reasonable guess was that Samsung is preparing a switch or at least an extension of its smart wearable lineup. Yet now new info comes in to that it was a one-off stunt by Google and the Korean manufacturer has not decided to change the wearable OS.

This information sets back the Gear S4 rumors and leaks back to square one - nothing for now. It appears that Samsung will stick with Tizen OS for its more polished UI and try and tackle the app shortage in its App store.

The latest smartwatch by Samsung currently is the Gear Sport, released last Fall. The device is water- and dust-resistant, lacks cellular connectivity, and costs $300.

Problem with Samsung is the awful app store they have. They need to work on a better UI and performance for their app store
