Samsung I5700 Galaxy Lite to be actually called Galaxy Spica

02 September, 2009

We’ve just spotted an image of the second Android device by Samsung - the I5700 Galaxy Lite. Some other interesting info was also made public recently - the device will be pet-named Samsung Galaxy Spica.

The photo of Galaxy Spica you see on the left is somehow connected with the French carrier Bouygues Telecom, which should release the Android phone on the French market.

Other sources suggest that the leaked photo is not the final design as the final product will have two more shortcut keys below the display - the Home and the Web keys.

Running on Android 1.5 (Cupcake), the Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica is supposed to be a cheaper alternative to Samsung I7500 Galaxy with a more youthful target group.

Anyways, we were also surprised to read that beside being equipped with the mandatory Wi-Fi and GPS receiver, the Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica will in fact run on the same 800Mhz CPU as Omnia II. That should provide better performance than the 528Mhz CPU on the original Samsung Galaxy (which is by no means sluggish).
