          Update :

For backing up contacts, call logs, bookmarks, sms, mms, system settings, home shortcuts, alarms etc., search for MyBackupPro from some torrent size. Its an amazing app and servers the purpose well.

For better readability, read it as ...

            /media/notifications
            /media/ringtones
            /media/alarms

And inside your phone it should get listed as ...

            /sdcard/media/notifications
            /sdcard/media/ringtones
            /sdcard/media/alarms

              Hi,

Following is how you set custom ringtones/message_tones/notification_tones for your android handset:

1.) Attach usb cable and mount your sd card so that its accessible on your Desktop PC.
2.) At the root of your sdcard, create a new folder and name it "media".
3.) Inside "media", create three additional new sub-folders namely "ringtones", "notifications" & "alarms".
4.) Use these sub-folders to copy your favourite media to and thats it :)

Note : Folder names are case-sensitive, so letters must be in small-caps only. If your media (.mp3, .wav etc.) don't get listed while making selection inside your phone, try mounting/unmounting ur sd-card or restart your phone, alternatively.

Anonymous, 27 Feb 2010How do u backup data on the handfone. Also can u help with ... moreAbout backup:

--Memory Card Data : Attatching USB cable and selecting "Mount" option from the phone.

--Contacts : They automatically keep syncing with ur google account (requires internet connection). I still haven't come across any such app which allows offline transfer of ur contacts to your pc via usb. May be "Samsung Kies" (A new PC Suite) will offer such functionality once it gets available with 2.1 release.

--Messages : There is one simple, yet powerful app from an Indian author called "SMS Backup & Restore".

                    Free GPS Navigation with voice-guidance
--Co-Pilot is one to name, its not free though :(

SWAPNil, 27 Feb 2010Thanks Gurdeep for your help...i'm very keen to try the goo... moreIf you live in India, this is the best budget android phone for you. The next close to your budget might be the Tattoo from htc. Compared to Tattoo, i5700 has better h/w, better screen size, better resolution and large catalog of compatible apps which can be downloaded from android Market.

Everything apart, there is considerable price different between the both (INR 2500-3000). Tattoo might come good for you considering 2 things : 1.) It's from HTC, which means good customer support 2.) It has HTC proprietary SenseUI which is an eye-candy and brings totally different user experience.

Unlike current 1.5 plain vanilla version of android, from 2.1 upgrade you gonna see some samsung customizations from UI aspect as well. All-in-all i5700 is the best bet for you under ur budget, go ahead.

--) Regarding mp3 as msgtone, stilling finding, will let u know as I find it...
--) Wait for the official upgrade to Android 2.1. It's just around the corner and will definitely address the BT transfer thing, as it exposes Bluetooth API.
--) There are manufacturers who had customized android ROM to support Radio (e.g. HTC Tattoo). Unfortunately i5700 do not have it and will not have it from the upgrade as well (doesn't have supporting h/w i guess).

I can count its over 80 applications installed on my handset and I got no single issue related to the memory while installing. 180 MB internal is enough for me, i believe. Furthermore, you may backup ones u don't use often and install them later when u really do wish to have those available.

I guess it's not about the phone, but the platform u wish to use. If u r new to android n give it a try, just go for this handset. Its economic, reliable and performs well with its 800Mhz clock speeds. Whats more, it will soon receive latest upgrade to android 2.1. True google experience phone I'll say :D

                                    Happy buying :)
