Phone is quite good since I installed Cyanogen 6. By the way, this phone can and does run Gingerbread (Cyanogen 7). Check out forum.samdroid.net. With custom ROM, this phone is a good buy. With standard Samsung firmware, forget it.

Spica is useless for gaming because it lacks GPU, even after upgrade it to 2.2 custom ROM Froyo won't improve its gaming section.

Too bad this device lacks GPU so it is useless for 3D game although it has a 800 MHz processor. Even Samsung I5500 and Sony Ericsson X8 which are cheaper has its own GPU.

it can be updated to froyo (2.2). But it's unoficial. The rom is cyanogenmod 6.1. And about Ginger (2.3) there another rom (cyanogenmod 7) but it's not fully functional, for example, camera doesn't work till now. We should wait and then we can enjoy 2.3

Hi I've got a FEW quirk on the phone.
1.when I'm charging the phone & using it the touchscreen goes mad and startd inputing words&letters in that u never touched.
2.it does not register the sd card on the phone even though the photo gallery has my family photo on it from the sd card.
3.can't remove app shortcuts from the wallpaper screen.
4.YOU CAN'T UPGRADE THE OS BY JUST GOING TO THE SAMSUNG SITE ON THE PHONE.
5.ITS DOES NOT accept PDF FILES.

            Spica 2.2.1 ( Froyo - CyanogenMod 6.1.1 )
            ROM - 416,3 Mb
            RAM - 159 Mb

Spica can be upgrade to Froyo with 1Ghz OC and 3D drivers... So Spica now can be fast :)

and Gingerbread (2.3) requires a hardware GPU which this phone does not have.

anonim, 17 Feb 2011don't you know about apps2sd? it can store your apps into sdapps2sd only works if you ROOT your phone, which means a lot of rocket science is involved. Standard out-of-the-box Spica? Forget it, you're stuck with the measly stock memory.

Honestly, Samsung Spica stock firmware is a crap but with Samdroid, we are enjoying Android Froyo 2.2 much better than the Samsung Spica stock firmware.

my opinion to one aspiring for an android phone, if you want to buy android phone, i think u choose with bit big internal memory, i think at least 250mb above, for you enjoy the apps in the free market. If get one that small internal memory, u just get annoy with the phone, coz lots of android apps, 'matically save n the phone memory, except musics, vids & pics save to sd card. I you buy with 60mb, just a waste of money, whats for, u buy android but u can,t enjoy it. you better decide, you'll see..
