IFA 2012: Samsung overview

IFA 2012

GSMArena team, 29 August 2012.

Camera and video samples

We also managed to snap a few sample photos with the camera and even a video. As you can see, the lighting conditions are far from perfect, so the Note II didn't get a chance to show its full potential.

Synthetic benchmarks

It's time to see how the Galaxy Note II handles some of our traditional synthetic benchmark tests. We stress-tested the GPU NenaMark 2, while Quadrant was our pick for an overall performance benchmark.

Within the Galaxy Note II operates the same Mali-400 GPU as in the Galaxy S III. Despite this, however, the Note II scored a tad less than its smaller brother, which we suspect is due to the pre-release software that it runs.

Still, it outperformed its GeForce-powered rivals by a wide margin and even managed to beat the Meizu MX 4-core in NenaMark 2, despite the shared chipset and the pixel count disadvantage (NenaMark is rendered at native resolution).

We've also included the benchmark results for the Samsung Galaxy Camera. The results seem rather low (quad-core CPU at 1.4GHz should have matched Galaxy S III). Keep in mind that the Camera is running Jelly Bean and Samsung is still working on it, so it's not final yet - we will rerun the benchmarks as soon as we can get our hands on a Camera with a software closer to completion. Even in its current state, the Galaxy Camera is the fastest camera around, for what that's worth.

NenaMark 2

Higher is better

  • Samsung Galaxy S III
    58.8
  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
    56.5
  • Samsung Galaxy Camera
    55.4
  • Meizu MX 4-core
    54.1
  • LG Optimus 4X HD
    52.3
  • HTC One X (Tegra 3)
    47.5

Considering the 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos 4 Quad that's powering the Note II, it's no surprise it easily beat the competition come the overall benchmarks. Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean doesn't hurt either and it's visible in the results below.

Quadrant

  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
    5916
  • Samsung Galaxy S III
    5365
  • Meizu MX 4-core

    4842
  • LG Optimus 4X HD
